accepted today into Economics major!

Ok, well…sadly I checked my status online on Friday and it changed to “Wait List Offer”. It said I’m basically eligible for admission to Columbus, but due to the “competitiveness of the applicant pool” I would have the option to be placed on a wait list. SO…I guess I have a question that is: Does anyone know exactly what are the wait list options? If I do place myself on the wait list, what’s the latest they’d let me know if I get accepted or not? Basically, does anyone know the run-down of their wait list options? Please let me know!

I got the same thing. I’m not sure what it entails but we should be receiving something in the mail soon.

200171884 & sarahm17 I’m so sorry to hear you both got waitlisted, I really was hoping all of us would get accepted! :(

First off, I’d call OSU admissions and ask what their policy is on accepting a waitlist. I think what it means, though, is that they will see how many open spots are available after people commit to OSU and if they determine that there are enough, they will accept people off the waitlist.

The biggest concern is knowing how much longer you’d have to wait, I assume.

Sorry again to hear about being waitlisted.

I got accepted to aerospace engineering =). Really sorry to hear about the wait list guys. But don’t lose hope! The worst thing will be the continued waiting.

Well, I was too anxious to wait for my letter to come in the mail, so I called down to OSU today and this is what they said about the wait-list offer. First of all, you will get a letter asking if you even want to be put on the wait list at all. If you choose not to or chose to, you will have to mail your decision to the office of admissions by May 1st, 2011. IF you choose to be placed on the wait list you will have 2 options. Option 1: You can see if you are accepted to Columbus campus and if you’re not, then you have the option to start Summer Quarter (June 21st, 2011) on Columbus campus and then after you complete Summer Quarter, you can start Autumn Quarter. Apparently there’s about a month in between summer and fall quarter. You CAN live on campus housing in Columbus over the summer. Option 2: You can see if you can get into Columbus campus and if not, you can go to one of OSU’s regional campuses for a year and then transfer into Columbus campus the next year. The latest they can let “wait list offer” people know if they are accepted into Columbus campus or not is by June 1st, 2011. SO…there’s the options for wait-list people. I’m not sure what I’m going to do, I’ll probably accept to be placed on the wait-list, but if I don’t get accpeted to Columbus, I probably won’t attend OSU. Sadly.

2001, don’t forget that going to OSU in the summer will net you quite a few credits, combined with any AP credits you may have, that can get you to Columbus earlier than a year because you only need 45 credits to transfer out of a branch. They say a year because a year is what it usually takes to get 45 with no prior credits coming in.

I’m new to college confidential but I’ve been reading the threads for about a month now. I can relate because I was deferred also. And when i checked my status it said Wait Offer also. I called right after I checked to know my options. I truly do want to attend tOSU but I’m not sure if I want to go during the summer.

If you really like going to OSU, why not take up the summer option?

I was deferred and then accepted with an academic scholarship…they probably just needed more time to look into your application.

I as well would really like to attend The Ohio State University, but I’m not too sure if I want to start summer quarter. I graduate on June 5th and that would basically give me a few weeks of summer to my name and then I’d already be in school. I would esentially have no summer whatsoever and I don’t like that. I would like to go to OSU, but not that bad. I also am NOT going to a regional campus, I went and visited Lima and that was a joke. You don’t feel a part of the Ohio State community at all, im my opinion. So, I will try my odds for the last time and place myself on the wait-list. Hopefully third times the charm! So, I guess I’ll be waiting until June 1st to find out my fate with OSU. If not, then I’ll go my second choice school, I already paid the acceptance fee and all that jazz, so I’m set!

2001, Yea that is what is holding me back to. I don’t want to miss out on my summer but I get out May 26th and graduate the 2nd so its a couple of weeks. But Kent State is my second choice but I really do want to go to OSU. This is so tough.

Well, we’re in the same boat! haha. Oddly enough, Kent State is also my second choice!

Also, I got my letter in the mail from OSU today with my options for wait list. I chose to be placed on the wait list with my second option of starting summer quarter. I’m going to seriously kick around the idea of starting summer quarter and once June 1st rolls around with the decision, I can make the appropriate choice. I already paid for Kent State and everyhting, so I have nothing to lose. I can, hopefully, get accepted to OSU for autumn quarter and de-committ to Kent OR not get accepted to OSU for autumn quarter and then decide whether or not if I really want to do summer quarter or just stick with my committment to Kent State. So, I guess I really have nothing to lose here except admission to OSU for autumn quarter. Fingers crossed! Hopefully third times the charm with OSU.

I know someone last year who was offerred the same option for summer school. He sent his deposit to another school May 1 and was all set to go there, but then he got offered admission to Fall quarter two weeks later. I find it laughable that his mother thinks he got off the wait list by “calling their bluff”; I think he just came off the wait list when he did. Nevertheless, there’s still hope for you. Good luck.

200171884, just to clarify my last post. The kid I talked about did the same thing as you’re doing. He didn’t accept the summer admission option, he stayed on the wait list and he made it in. Hopefully, your experience will the end the same way his did.

Yeah, well. I called down to OSU yesterday and asked plenty of questions and they said that they offered “wait-list” to anywhere between 800 and 900 people and that only about 100 people actually choose to be placed on the wait-list, usually. I asked how they typically admit people, and they said they just review the application (for a 3rd time) again and then decide. They said it doesn’t take them that long to get their way through about 100 or so applications, so the process is rather quick. On terms on how many people get admitted, the guy said it varies by year. He said that last year, almost everyone on the wait list got accepted for admission to autumn quarter, but in the year before that almost no one got accepted for admission for autumn quarter. So, it really depends on the year. The guy told me to probably bank on my second option, which would be summer quarter…so if that’s the case, I probably won’t go to OSU. :-/

OSU is still my first choice too but i received the wait list offer as well
Does anybody know if being put on the waitlist earlier like sending in the letter will give you a better shot at getting in?
And does anyone know if it is still possible to be awarded the national buckeye scholarship after you are admitted if you are admitted off of the waiting list?

I think it’s actually encouraging that only 100 opted for the wait list. I think you got a good shot. All you need is for 100 kids who sent their deposit in to change their mind. Plus, they are probably waiting on a deposit from some who were admitted to secure their spot and those people might decide to go elsewhere.
Who knows, last year worked out, but not the year before.

wow im surprised we are all in the same boat here! I didn’t think anyone would be, but I am having the same exact problem but am going to do the wait list and summer if I have to because Ohio state is my main choice! No other campus compared such as Ohio university. How does the summer course work tho because I think its only 5 weeks and then you come home until fall quarter… does anybody know?
