Deferred ed

My son just found out he was deferred after applying ed. He’s a bit heartbroken. Does anyone get in after being deferred or are his chances slim to none?

There is always a chance to still get in. I had a friend two years ago who got deferred, but then got in RD. If your son’s grades show an upward trend, or if he has any new awards, it is HIGHLY recommended you send those in to the admissions office with a letter of continued interest. I’m not sure of the exact chances, but your son still has a solid shot. That being said, it is always good to have around 5 other schools that your son loves that he can apply to just in case. Whatever college that accepts him will be lucky to have him. Best of luck!

I agree, especially about the upward trend on grades. Many deferrals are “wait to see first semester grades.” In the meantime, I urge all students to remember that there are hundreds of terrific schools out there. In Virginia we are particularly well-supplied. Take a close look at all the Virginia colleges, not just the ones you hear about.

Thanks! He didn’t get in but has found other options he is excited about.
