Deferred from Dartmouth...

I know this is long but please help me...

I was recently deferred from Dartmouth. I am considering writing a letter of intent to explain that Dartmouth is still clearly my first choice, getting a senior year teacher to write me a reccomendation, and sending them my first semester grades/awards.

Since I was expecting to get deferred, I worked very very very hard the first semester of senior year and got all A's and one B+. Here are the things that I am sending Dartmouth to "update" my application. Do these accomplishments help improve my chances to get in at all??? Do I still have a shot??

My cross country team (I am the captain), was both District and Regional Champs and we took 4th place in the state of FL.

I placed 4th at a recent wrestling tournament in Miami

I am on the Headmaster's List (really hard to get on, hopefully this will show that I have been trying really hard senior year)

I was voted the top 125 lb. wrestler at a recent tournament in Tampa

That's about it for now. I will probably place at a couple more wrestling tournaments before my mid-year report is sent. Here are my regular stats:

URM---Hispanic
31 ACT
3.65 UW GPA --> not including Senior year.
School doesn't rank
710 SATII Lit
630 SATII USH
4 on APUSH
Good ECs (at least I think so)... 3 varsity sports every year of high school and I am the captain of those three varsity teams this year (won't be playing in college, though), Tour Guide (11), Assistant Head Tour Guide (12), Lacrosse Club 9-12 (founder), Photographer/Sports Writer for the Newspaper (9-12), Classic Film Club 10, SADD 9-12 (Vice President 12; VP Finance 11), Writing Center Tutor (12), Diversity Awareness Club (11-12), Spanish Club 9-12, Red Cross Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding, I have been lifeguarding at my local pool for 2 years.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

You and I have similar stats and I was deferred from Dartmouth. What you're sending in sounds good, and I'm glad other people are sending in extra things, and that I'm just not annoying the heck out of Admissions.

I'm sending in a CD that my rock band just recently recorded, a few issues of the school newspaper where I am a editor, and maybe some other writing samples :) GOOD LUCK.

Good luck to you, too

When you apply ED, there is no doubt that this is the school you want. Telling them how dedicated you are is probably not the point at this juncture.

My college counselor says that a lot of people get really discouraged and lose interest in a school after they are deferred.
