Deferred from NCSU Engineering; can i make it?

I’m a senior who just got a deferral from NCSU’s engineering program (civil as first choice, biomedical as second).

Unweighted: 4.00
Weighted: 4.42
9/268 in class
29 composite ACT (33 math, 23 science :(, 31 english, 30 reading)
Unfortunately, no job experience and very minimal volunteer experience
3 AP’s so far and I am completing 2 AP’s this year
Also going to turn in the recent fall semester’s grades since they are all A’s

What are my chances of acceptance come the regular decision round? Should I switch my major (at least my second choice) to something different that would benefit from my resume? If so, what should I switch it to? Any other words of advice? Thanks guys, kinda stressin’.

Sorry to hear that, but just remember you are still in the running. I know it’s stressful and hope you also have some other good offers coming your way.

I can’t speak to your odds of getting in, but when we visited pre-covid for an engineering college visit the head of COE admissions spoke and recommended having exploratory studies as a 2nd choice. That had higher odds of getting into an Eng program that if you switched to another less competitive major. They reserve X amount of spots from the exploratory studies students.

Keep your head up and submit those A’s!!! Good luck!

Are you in state? Your wgpa looks like an NC school. Did you submit your ACT or go test optional? You have a great resume; the only thing that stands out is a slightly lower # of APs and the 23 science subscore. NCSU engineering admissions is very stats based. Are you taking AP chem, physics or bio this year? Perhaps an updated transcript/grade in an AP science class could boost your standing. You have such a great resume (less the science subscore), that it may help them to know you can succeed in the freshman weedout classes like Physics, Chem and Calc. All freshmen go in as EFY (general engineering). I don’t know if it would’ve mattered much which two engineering disciplines you listed, but as collegedna said perhaps exploratory studies as a second option. Only 80 are accepted into the BioE program each year, so it’s a very competitive major. If they allow you to, submit an update with an AP science grade; good luck!!
