If your stats etc. indicate that a deferral would be expected then there is no reason for the GC to call – especially one that doesn’t know you very well. These types of calls are more often made when a deferral/rejection is surprising because in those cases the GC would want to understand what “went wrong” with an application or if the school’s admissions standards have changed.
What you can do is write a note to your admissions rep letting him/her know that the school remains your top choice and you can also let them know if you have any honors/accomplishments since your application was filed.
