So I'm having a tough time with my app to SHA being deferred (I should be very grateful given that it wasn't rejected...which I am) and I was wondering if you guys think this still applies to the 2013-2014 applicant pool.

Its a quick thread, only 3 pages, so its easy to get through it. I know that this is all speculation but still what do you guys think? Maybe what was said in this thread about SHA deferrals is true...

Early Decision has higher rates of acceptance than regular decision.
Being deferred DOES NOT improve your chances in the regular decision pool.
Everyone is on equal grounds during regular decision.

Being deferred has no significant meaning.
Cornell does not reject applicants in early decision, except in extraordinary cases.

Being deferred is like a second chance with much more competition & lower probability of acceptance.

If your academic stats are in range for SHA, then the best thing you could do to enhance your app is to obtain another industry-related job. I believe the figure quoted is 88% of enrolled students (or accepted students, but practically the same thing given SHA’s astronomical yield) have industry experience.

I have no idea if the deferral rate from SHA is higher than from other schools, but I do know that SHA’s ED rate was only one point higher than their RD rate for the class accepted last year. If you have new information to report or a new job to communicate, contact SHA admissions directly.

Deferred to SHA as well, I agree with Dishonored that you do not have a better chance in the regular pool because you got deferred during early decision. I also think that it is a complete crapshoot from now on. Adding anything other than your first semester report or a rec of some sort is sort of pretentious I would say.

You have another chance to market yourself, so don’t worry about being pretentious. If you additional awards you should send it in. Cornell also said it is not required, but you could send in another essay if you want.

I sent them another essay (like an email), letter or rec, and midterm grades…I figure if this is my one shot then I would give it my all. I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I am regretting not sending in updates…Thank you all for your help and good luck to you Wanp!!!
