I am a current junior in high school now. I might apply for the class of 2010, but I also might take a year off after high school. Would deferring enrollment increase my chances of being admitted?

No, it does not.

You gotta be admitted first to defer enrollment.

I figured that when you apply, you would say whether or not you would want to defer, then they would have an idea of the yield for that class, and admit you or reject you accordingly.

Sorry, I obviously haven't been through the admissions process.

Yes, we all try and get a leg-up in the admissions process. Completely understandable.

If you are considering taking a year off, I would encourage you to do so. I am a rising sr. at Harvard, and several of my friends did this. All of the highly, highly recommend taking a break. You can apply and then defer, or you can apply after your year off. My friends did both of these methods. If you don't apply until you've taken a year off, just be sure to note how you've productively spent your "gap year" off. Good luck! :)

Yeah that was another thing I was thinking about doing. I would most likely travel around, but am interested in doing some things to help my college app. as well. We'll see. Thanks though for your help.
