Definition of "Early decision"??

What does early decision really means? someone told me that if you choose early decision and got it then you "have to" go to that college. but others tell me that if you cant afford it then you dont have to go even though you applie as early decision and got accepted. If its base on the second one then whats the point of early decision then? when you can get accepted and still choose to go or not. Can someone tell me the real meaning of early decision? thx

Both definitions are correct.

If you are accepted into early decision, you must attend. The only catch is if you can financially prove that you are unable to afford the cost. Even if you try and “get out of the ED agreement” because of this reason, there are many hoops you have to jump through, and they aren’t pretty.

what if i didnt do anything and just wait for other result of college to come out? would that affect the result for other college? what what will be the consequence if i choose other college even though i didnt prove to the early decision one that i cant afford it?

Most Regular Decisions come out April 1st. If you’re accepted into an Early Decision, you must submit your deposit within a few weeks of being notified that you’ve been accepted.

Early Decision agreement is a signed contract which states that you must withdraw your other applications upon acceptance into the college.

If you violate any part of the agreement, then you’ll be sued.
