Thanks! He received the merit info but it looks like weā€™ll need to wait a bit longer to hear about honors. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks - hoping heā€™ll hear soon! :crossed_fingers:

My daughter only got 2 grand annually OOS but TO. 3.7 GPA 4.0 last year. I find it insulting but I guess they have a standard she didnā€™t reach for good merit. I guess they donā€™t want her that badly. She got 21,000 from Loyola Chicago.

We got only 2 grand a year. A pittance.

Itā€™s a formula, they only calculate gpa when awarding merit, the higher the gpa, the higher the merit. There is no need to take it personal. Some colleges offered my kids nothing, the highest offered was $35,000 a year, lots in between. There are kids eh apply to UD with 4.0 GPAā€™s and 1600 SATā€™s (who most likely are offered more than the $17,000 trustee award). Itā€™s based on stats.

It is similar to a deferral however not exactly the same. A deferral usually means that your application is being put into the regular decision pool. In your sonā€™s case they are asking for more information. he apparently is borderline at this point and they want to sort of monitor him for the next few months to solidify their decision. Send current grades, email admissions officer with anything additional they have been doing for the last month or plan to do that may not be in their application. communicate to keep interest high and most importantly keep the grades up. send mid year transcript. send first quarter report card. its sort of like he is on the edge of being accepted and they want to be 100% sure before they officially oofer him an acceptence. . keeping academics at a high level, continued engagement in community and school activities as well as communication and interest will help.

I think Loyola Chicago has ā€˜lowerā€™ average stats as compared to DE.

My opinionā€¦.
I fully expect less ā€˜academically challengingā€™ colleges to offer my child more money. For my child, her so called safeties are offering her a lot of money. Her targets, not so much. Itā€™s what colleges do. Itā€™s an incentive to get you to go there, so their prestige is raised. Some people can get their college education paid for this way. I donā€™t think there is anything wrong with it because unless itā€™s a specialized degree I donā€™t think it matters where you get your undergrad at.
Again, the above is just my opinionā€¦ā€¦

GPA 3.5
SAT 1100
All honors AP and dual enrollment business class

Thank you for input and encouragement

Canā€™t figure out how to edit my post

After rereading my post, I donā€™t want to take anything away from the higher stats kid by implying this school is beneath them. I believe college is what you make of it. My child wants to go to DE because she likes the school and vibe, not because of their avg GPA or test scores. It just happened to fall within her academic range as a target school

I know exactly what you are saying, my kids knew they needed generous merit if they wanted to go OOS. They really only applied to safeties and matches (mostly safeties) for this reason. Most merit isnā€™t based on ECā€™s but on objective stats, grades and test scores.

For those accepted, does something come by snail mail as well? We have a kid who isnā€™t actively checking portals for results now that all is complete (nerves?) Applied to DE end of October so hoping to hear soon!

Yes, package came a little over a week later!

Thank you! Congratulations

Thanks! And congratulations!

My S is waiting to here back - can only attend with about 10k scholarship because we are OOS.
3.8 gpa and 1390 SAT.
The calculator I did said heā€™d get 3k, but Iā€™m hoping the rigor if his classes are taken into account - 8 APs and the rest honors.

Is 3.8 weighted or uw? Last year my son got $10,000 with a WGPA of 3.8, 1390 SAT, I was surprised.

My S just got accepted OOS with 3.8 UW and 1310 SAT and got $10k a year so hopefully you should be good. Less rigor than your son.
