Delegate for Congress of Future Medical Leaders?

So I got invited to this thing somehow. I’m a good student, but certainly not exceptional. I mean, last time I checked I was barely in the top 10% of my graduating class, I have what I would consider average EC’s, and it’s not like I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA or perfect test scores. Basically, is this just a waste of money similar to what the National Society of High School Scholars appeared to be, or is this some great opportunity that I was just never aware of? They seem pretty credible, with some relationships with some quite accomplished universities, and their benefits appear to be great. Unfortunately though UF, where I plan on attending this summer, wasn’t on that quite short list. Could somebody please provide me with some info on this? Does the fact that my school doesn’t have a relationship with them matter? I have no idea what it is or if I should pursue it.

This Congress is basically a marketing ploy, much like National Society of High School Scholars.

Ok thats good to know. Recently I was looking at IBM finalists and proceeded to feel terrible about myself. I mean, why would they invite me to this thing along with kids my age developing things to be used by actual doctors? So in short, it’s just a waste of money? I assume all it is is a seminar you attend up in Boston for an exorbitant price?

A waste of money? It may very well be a great experience for a future pre-medical student. Or at least a learning experience.

You didn’t expect it to get you into a university or medical school, did you?

No not exactly. It said something about internships and figured that that was enough for me to research it. For $800 plus though there is no way a seminar can be worth it. I would rather use that time to get acclimated to the UF campus before classes begin on the 29th.

It’s during your college orientation? Definitely agree with your decision not to go.
