Dell Latitude D505 vs D610

Hey guys, I'm a rising freshman @ Syracuse, in the middle of deciding which laptop to buy for this fall. I'm deciding b/w the Dell Latitude D505 and the D610. I only would use the computer for word processing, listening to music, and going online. I dont use any other programs like games or anything. Which do you think would be the best option for me?

Thanks!

D610 always seems to work out cheaper than other notebooks when you customize it. Just customize both to what you want and decide between the price. you cant go wronge either way

uhhh, the d505 is a discontinued model. Besides, the d610 (the current model) is much more advanced; it is simply a slight refresh of the d505, without any of the 505's flaws.

actually, the SU bookstore is selling D505's this year so I know that they are in fact, not discontinued. thanks for your opinion though!

what are some of the 505's flaws btw?

D505's are definitely discontinued. Syracuse simply has access to models that have not been sold yet. The D510 is the newer version because it has the new 'Sonoma' chipset.

I would go for the D610 because it is updated compared to the D505.

Yeah, if you go to Dell's website you'll see that d505 has been replaced by d510.

I'm not sure of all of the d505's flaws, but I do know that one critical flaw was it tended to overheat, especially around the palm rest/touchpad area.

uc_benz: Sonoma (like centrino) is not a chipset. Sonoma is the "new" centrino, which is simply a marketing scheme for a combo Pentium M with an Intel Wireless card.

thanks for all the replies, guys!
