Dell?

I heard somewhere that Dell is updating their laptops in August so we should wait to order d's laptop until that occurs. Is this true? Does anyone have information about this?

blow outs usually take place

Begining or near the end of a commercial quarter

Feb/Mar/Apr to clear out inventory before new products are rolled out (usually at trade shows in Las Vegas)

In June Dell announced that it will launch a new premium brand targeted at high-end home customers. They're supposed to come out this fall (probably after September, more geared to Holiday purchases) and will include both desktop and notebooks priced between $1,200 and $3,500 and positioned just above the company's Dimension and Inspiron product families. They say they consider this the Lexus of their lineup.

Here's an article: <a href="http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-5730030.html%5B/url%5D">http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-5730030.html</a></p>

Sounds to me like an entertainment perhaps even Windows Media line. Honestly I doubt whether it's the kind of machine that would be worthwhile for most college students to wait for, even if if came out in time. What must students need is either an inexpensive, Inspiron type computer, or if they can afford it, one of the Latitude business class lines, functional, solid. If you want to play games there's already the XP1 or for entertainment, several with tv tuners and Windows media.

I'm sure that Dell would have announced by now any new models geared towards "Back-to-school" season. None of the manufacturers are changing any of their lineups right now. (Well, HP did make some model changes a few weeks ago, but that was only to introduce the new AMD Turion processors to its lineup)

Expect new models around Late September - Early November, in preparation for the holdiday season.
