does Denison care a lot about demonstrated interest (emailing, visiting, ect)?
does will it hurt me to not interview?
I live in nyc so it is not that easy for me to visit
- If you google the college’s common data set, go to the section on admissions, and it will tell you if demonstrated interest is important.
- If you want to interview and can’t visit campus, you should contact admissions and request an interview with an alumni who lives near you.
- There are other ways to demonstrate interest such as getting on the college’s email list, contacting the admission officer if you have a question that can’t be answered on the website, taking part in an online chat with admissions if that is available, attending any presentations or college fairs that the school goes to near where you live to name a few.
Denison has a very involved alumni network and they would probably be delighted to connect you with an interviewer in NY. If you are admitted, they’ll send you a substantial directory of alums who have volunteered to talk to admitted students (with our having the school as a gatekeeper ). I don’t think reaching out now could go wrong for you.
Denison does not actually post its Common Data Set, so you can’t search to see how “interest” is considered in the application process. But they are many other ways besides visiting to learn about a school and to show interest – get on the mailing list, follow Denison and Denison Admissions on Twitter, participate in Denison “Google hangouts,” check the Admissions website to identify who your Admissions officer is and whether they are in your area soon.
Good luck!
thanks everyone! I am already on the mailing list and I will definitely get into contact with the rep in my area or an alum
I would go through the admissions office to request an interview so it is documented in your admission file.
If you are on the mailing list, you should get links to the Google hangouts – live stream conversations about admissons, student life etc., with the opportunity to write in questions that are answered in real time. Denison admissions office is very active on Twitter, follow it (as long as your own social media activity does not raise questions about your judgment etc.) Denison also does events in major metro areas, I would be pretty confident they do events in NYC and suburbs.
