I have a 2.89 GPA and no downward or upward trend. Got 5xC 4xB 3xA. No W, F, or D's.
Nearly cut out and destroyed my social life to try to get into a UC, but now end up with only a 2.89. Mainly because I just of how bad I started off Highschool (graduated though) and really do not like the CC environment.

Been to CCC for three years and literally only missed 1 class day due to the flu.

To make things worst, I have no EC, as I had to stay home for family reasons.

Met the English class requirements, took two calculus courses, finished all my major preps but unfinished IGETC.

I've applied to all the UC's except UCLA, UCB, and UCSD.

There’s always a chance, and you can always apply to CSU’s as well. In any case, you definitely need to reevaluate your study habits. Why so many C’s?

Yeah, really going to try a different study habit this coming spring and see how that turns out.

The C’s were from English,Calculus,Computer Sci, Statistics, Pre Calculus.

English class was Freshman Composition. I just always hate English classes and got a very picky professor. But took the next English course, Critical thinking and writing, and got a B.

Pre-Cal and Calculus: Never got loss in the classes, understand all of the topics, but just extremely hard professors when it comes to exams. The problem was that they incorporated extremely hard algebra topics into calculus topics. But got a B in calculus 2.

Computer Science class… had an 81 in the class, but bombed the final exam and dropped to a 76.

As for CSU, decided to pass up Fullerton and Long Beach after highschool just to go CCC -> UC.

I think you have a shot at UCR and UC Merced. Maybe UCSC. UC Davis, UCSB, and UC Irvine are going to be tough because a lot of students TAG to their majors and some are impacted. I know for sure Business Administration is impacted at UCI and Economics and Accounting is impacted at UCSB. UC Davis has a lot of TAG students for Managerial Economics but I’ve heard conflicting answers if it is impacted.

Did you apply to only UC’s? Accounting is a strong program in many of the CSUs where firms like the Big 4 recruit.

There’s always hope. I had a friend who I urged to apply and be was extremely skeptical (his goal was SF State) and he applied with a 2.9 and his major was political science. He got into UC Davis, UCSB, and was wait listed for UC Irvine. Ultimately he ended up going to Santa Barbara. How he got in, still befuddles me. He says he wrote a great personal statement but I am a little skeptical about that.

The point is, always keep hope.

One thing I would like to ask is that do you really want to go to school? Or are you just doing it to just for the sake of doing it.

@themadman
Honestly, unless its a $80k+ salary full time secured job, I wouldn’t quit school, even with that offer, I would still have to seriously consider it. Just feel that earning a degree, especially from a UC, is mandatory for me, morally and financially. Don’t really like it, but just feel I have to complete school. Always wanted to go to a UC school since my middle school days, but a bad first two years of highschool really messed me up.

Honestly dude, I was in your exact same position coming out of high school. None of at matters once you get into the CC. For me, finding out that philosophy was the one true subject that generally interested me was a godsend, and enabled me to want to continue my education because I really wanted to know the material. With my friend that I was talking about, he’s currently not happy even though he got into a good school because he doesn’t like his major and therefore has no drive. I would highly suggest doing something that makes you come alive, as even if you go and do something just for the sake of doing it, you will still have the same issues that you are having at the CC level. Also, don’t be afraid to stay another year at the CC, I’ve been at my college longer than I would like (I played sports but only got offers for dumb schools which I would never go to) but at the end of day, you shouldn’t cheat yourself from getting the best that you can. My GPA was even lower the yours, but I made the decision to stay one more year and have significantly raised it.

CSU’s are the ones that specialize in Accounting. I think UCSB is the only one that offers accounting with economics and a few other UC’s offer minors. None of those options are what you’re looking for. Honestly, going the CSU route is the way to go. If you search the forums, there are plenty of threads that discuss this issue. Almost all of the CSU’s offer BA’s and BS’s in Accounting.

i feel sooso stressed like you. but dont worry…whatever happens happens. we technically all have a chance. since the minimum for some UCs is at least a 2.4. and you have a 2.89 which is above that! i have a 3.19. and I’m so mad…and sad. a 3.2 would have looked better.
hang in there!

If your gpa is so low AND igetc isnt finished then you should do another year at ccc. You could get your gpa up to a 3.2 and tag yourself into many of the schools and be better prepared for upper division work.

You have a shot at some UCs; I transferred to UCI in 2011 with around a 3.0 GPA, no TAG. If you don’t get in, it’s not the end of the world and you can take the extra year to boost your GPA and do some other stuff.

Applying to UCI Business Information Management, different from accounting right? Any idea if that’s impacted?? Did a little research and found no info on it being impacted, but just wanna make sure.

^^If it’s in UCI Business school then its going to be impacted. Business Information Management is in both computer science and business school, so I can’t answer you. I recommend calling the admissions or the schools (Business or Computer Science) up.
