I’m failing about 3 out of 6 of my classes, two are AP and one are honors: AP Gov, AP Lit, and physics honors. I’m so overwhelmed with the work load along with my depression that I’ve been dealing with since the 7th grade. it’s like no matter how hard I try my grades still flunk. and with my depression I have ZERO energy and motivation it’s so hard for me I really am trying here. I’m getting help but I won’t have my meds until next month unfortunately.
I’m definitely gonna bring my grades up so that I’ll be able to pass and graduate. my motivation is very low right now so I’m honestly not shooting for A’s and B’s. anything that’ll get my to pass is fine at this point. I know, my senioritis is bad.
But I got into Shippensburg, Kutztown, Bloomsburg, Neumann, and East Stroudsburg so far. Do you think my bad grades at the end of this year will get me rescinded? shippensburg is my 2nd choice since I applied to Penn State main and Altoona and they told me they can’t offer me admission to my desired major/campus and I emailed them telling them I’d be willing to change either. so I’m still waiting to here back. and does anyone know if penn state checks senior year grades?
Advice would be greatly appreciated, I’ve been panicking over this for a while now.
They probably won’t rescind for Cs. Ds are a different matter. A student at my school had his acceptance rescinded from Massachusetts Maritime Academy last year for getting several Ds. If you can switch out of those APs, I would think about perhaps switching out of them.
I would strongly suggest you talk to your guidance counselor about this. I think you’re situation warrants a switch. If not, I don’t really know how to fix this problem, its pretty tricky.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how depression works but maybe take a break from work? During the weekend, get some sleep and do something fun.
I’m not a big fan of taking pharmaceuticals for every ill, but you might want to see a doctor about the depression. If you have good admission chances going, this is not the time to play roulette if you can get some help.
You have to pass. If you fail 3 classes it is very likely you will be rescinded. So bringing up to C would be the most desirable. It seems you took classes you can’t handle. You really should go talk to the GC because you are in a situation that is on the brink. Most every college check final Sr year grades. Some check first semester grades only but I don’t know Penn state, try the Penn state forum.
If you are getting some meds that is great but they will take at least 6 weeks to work, if they work at all. Some people respond and others don’t.
Meanwhile, go through the motions, do your hw, talk to the teacher and let them know you are struggling.
1- Short term triage: You need to work out a plan to get through the semester and graduate. Depression (like a long illness or an injury that keeps someone out of class) is a valid reason, in our high school, to get a 504 plan. That's where you, your GC, teachers, parents work out a plan to help you get through the classes. For instance, you may get deadlines pushed back, you may get permission to take a break during the day if you need it, etc.
2- You REALLY need to get the depression under control before college. It sounds like you've made steps to get help (but why do you have to wait a month for meds??) Are you also getting weekly therapy: it really is a big help. College is difficult and stressful as it is: you really should not go if you're battling untreated depression. My daughter had a hard time with serious depression in high school, too, and refused help for a long time. It finally got so bad, though, that she relented. As soon as she made the decision in herself that she needed to recover, her life changed. She started on SSRIs and therapy to learn coping skills and she is doing GREAT now. It really CAN get better and you really can enjoy and live a full, happy, engaged life.
