i used to be a really bright student...flawless grades, no problem focusing, liked to feel accomplished. now im halfway thru my junior year and my grades just arent there. im not failing, but my grades for this quarter are mostly 80s, partially because of 0s. i cant pay attention long enough to learn any new subjects and its a struggle to get myself to start anything harder than a worksheet.im in mostly AP and honors courses, and my lack of motivation could ruin everything. is it depression? and how do i fix it?

I don’t think this is depression according to what you said. Probably a lack of motivation.
But really, what is there inside that you want to express? If you could, message me and I’ll help you :)

Awwww I feel your pain bigsis10. Remember your worth is not determined by a piece of paper. Just remember to keep your head up no matter what. You could pm me if you want?

I have a similar issue. I’m a sophomore and I expect myself to get As but I have mostly A minuses now which isn’t good enough. So I’m also rly depressed, unmotivated, etc. I wish you good luck and I am so sorry. I don’t have much advice fir u at this moment bc I’m going through the same thing myself, sry.

well my family lifes never been the best, and iv got an older brother who always does better than me without any effort…maybe im just tired of trying so hard?

That’s exactly how I was earlier this school year, just no motivation to do anything and a complete inability to concentrate. If you feel like its really affecting you then see a counselor. They can properly diagnose you if its not just a case of early senioritis. I’ve been seeing my therapist for a few months now and am currently in the process of working through different medications and its mostly been helpful with my mood. Motivation is still sort of an issue but I am working on it.

If you feel constantly tired, have an increased or decreased appetite, have a really hard time concentrating and making decisions, sleep too much or too little, and are feeling generally down (and not only when it comes to school), then do try to find a therapist if you can afford one. Depression is only diagnosed as such when it’s severe (major depression) or when it’s been present for at least two years (dysthymia, which many people don’t notice until years down the line because it’s not extreme), but finding help if you’re starting to feel depressed cannot hurt you.

However, it’s not depression if the only thing worrying you is your grades. In that case, you should try looking for the source of this lack of motivation and find ways to make the topics interesting. If you really struggle with discipline, try to find a friend to study and work with and ask them to help you stay focused.
