Design your own major in School of Film/TV?

Hey, everyone. :) It's definitely looking like I'll be going to UCLA next year (yay!), but I was wondering: does anyone know how hard (or even impossible) it is to design your own major within the School of Film/TV? The thing is, UCLA's film department offers a lot of classes that I would absolutely love to take; however, most of these are not requirements for the actual Film/TV major and the current Film/TV major instead has a lot of classes that I am not interested in taking.

Ideally, I would love to create a major centered around TV Production/Screenwriting instead of Film Production (as the current major is). There are plenty of UCLA courses that concentrate on TV and plenty on screenwriting, so I think I could easily craft a major like that. But is that possible to do at UCLA? Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks! :)

You’ll have to talk to an academic counselor from the film department. Send them an e-mail and give them a call. Also, note that you won’t know if you’re in the school until junior year, and you need to have a backup major. It’s very very tough to get into the film school (if you didn’t already know)

Yeah, I know it’s very hard. But it’d be helpful to at least know in advance if such a personalized major would be possible. Because, honestly, the film major that is available there right now doesn’t interest me all that much. :-/ I’m going to College Day next week, so…hopefully I’ll have a chance to talk to an academic counselor in person, perhaps?
