Hi! I am planning on building a gaming computer for college. I applied to Columbia and other schools and I know for a fact that Columbia has the smallest dorm rooms, so in the unlikely chance that I get in, I want to know if it will work out. So the main problem is if my computer can fit in the room and the quality of the wifi and connection. My desktop is going to be a foot and a half tall and a foot wide.
Does anyone here have any experience with Columbia dorm rooms and if this set up could work? Is there even any time in college to engage in gaming in any way?
A monster gaming desktop is more than likely going to be a liability for you. First, it’s big and bulky and there’s little room. Second, it’s a huge distraction that can get out of control very quickly. And third, you’re never going to get a high speed wi-fi connection like you did at home; much less gaming quality. There are too many students sharing the same network.
If you’re going to do something for gaming, get an Alienware laptop. It serves the same purpose as your desktop, but it won’t take up all your room. My advice…if you want to keep your grades up, limit the games!
if you go to community college the dorm will be your very own room and you can build a huge gaming setup and also not bother your roommates with an annoying and selfish setup. Also your roommates are definitely going to love you bringing in a huge, annoying gaming setup into the dorm room.
