hey...anyone knows which computers are best for this particular major? i don't know what i should get...my bro is saying laptop, but my dad is saying desktop. the thing is, i don't wanna carry a huge computer to college and it's gonna be hard for me just to lift it up...but i heard laptop can't really be upgraded, so i'm not sure if this major required all the updated programs...

I really don't think it has anything to do with your major. It really has to do with preferences. I'd probably go with a laptop if your school has a lot of wireless internet availabilty. But it really is a personal choice. I had a desktop and did just fine, I didn't want to lug a computer around much.

Engineering majors do not have any special requirements for computers. Just buy whichever you prefer.

ohh okay thanks! do u guys think dell inspiron 700m is a good laptop?

I personally would not get the 700m for my primary computer, since the screen is only 12". Maybe if you get an external monitor, it would be okay.

700m plus a cheap external monitor works fine. an even better option is to get a small, portable laptop and a cheap desktop.

if you've got the money to spend go with the laptop, but don't buy the cheapest one you can find.

My only comment would be that some software you are likely to use as an engineering student (like Solidworks, for example) can hate laptops.
