Short Bio:
I’m not one to toot my own horn but I would say I am one of the most popular/liked kids in my grade. I am friends with everyone from the jocks to the bookworms, and I pride myself on being approachable by anyone. My networking and leadership skills are unmatched. The reason I am always reelected class president is because I can get stuff done and I get it done efficiently. For what I lack in grades, I make up for with my leadership qualities and other extracurriculars. My social abilities will give me the power to kill any interview. I am the only Indian varsity basketball and track athlete, which sets me apart from many other Indians in my school who mainly do science olympiad or math team (nothing against those clubs, just saying).

I’ll be honest, my biggest drawback are my grades, they are nowhere near my peers in my AP classes, but I still maintain better grades than most.

I am hoping to get into a solid state school (maryland, virginia, UNC, UCLA) or a top private school (cornell, duke). I don’t know what I want to study, but something along the business, finance, project management lines for sure.

Now, my questions…

  1. What more should I add to my resume? What other things could I do to make myself look better? Do I have enough?
  2. What SAT/ACT scores should I aim for to have a chance to get into the schools I have listed above?
  3. Are the schools I’ve listed unrealistic?
  4. What schools do you think are right for me?
  5. Obviously my grades are not the best, what grades would be sufficient for the schools I’m looking at?
  6. My brother went to Cornell for grad school, does that put me at an advantage?

Thank you so much for your time. I have written a lot, but it just shows how much I care. Be honest with me. Thank you.

I think you are resume is good enough to get in any colleges. If you would like to get in Ivy, you should aim like a 2100 + on SAT or a 32 ACT. I cannot tell whether it is unrealistic because you don’t have your standard test score. But you should work on your junior GPA and B is not acceptable to Duke or Cornell.

Please chance me back

A B is acceptable, but it will lower your chances.

Your focus should be to get really good grades, and ace standardized testing. Having better grades than most is sometimes not enough. You’ll probably have to get better grades than 90% of your grade to have a solid shot at Duke, Cornell, UCLA…

Drop any EC’s that might bog you down for now, and continue them when you are excelling in your classes and don’t need to allocate as much time to study as before.
