match me!!

Hi guys,

I’m currently a sophomore and for some reason am already super stressed about college. I have no idea if I’m on the right track or not. I’m hoping to go to a pretty competitive school, I don’t want to go to an Ivy, but will I get in?? What are some EC’s I can do to improve my standing? help make me less stressed plsssss!

Unweighted GPA: 4.00
Weighted GPA: maybe like 4.7? school doesn’t release this early
SAT: 1480 (I took this once in 8th grade on a whim; hoping to get a higher score next year when I actually study)
SAT subject: Math II=740 (ewww ik, took it as a frosh, hoping to get it up this summer)
PSAT: 1470 (yeah ik this doesn’t go to colleges )
AP Classes: school doesn’t allow until junior year, but I’m taking an accelerated math course that counts like an AP gpa wise. I also skipped a math class (tested out of Alg 2 into precalc)
Class Rank: 4 or 5/400 i think (pretty bad I know, my school is one of the best in the state and is filled with geniuses lol)
Personal Info: Female, Indian
Intended Major: something related to biology-- mathematical modeling, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering. Or I could veer of in a completely different direction and choose business/ pol sci

ECs: not impressive, advice welcome!

  • Red Cross Club (founder and president)
  • Future Medical Professionals Club (co-founder and president)
  • FBLA
  • Science Club/Science Fair
  • math team (captain)
  • robotics (a lead programmer)
  • 3 season varsity athlete (XC, swim, tennis)
  • editor in chief for a local newspaper
  • write for a published blog (topic: political advocacy)

Awards: nothing notable lol, pls advise me on competitions that’d be a good fit for me

  • 2x NSF science bee finalist
  • top freshmen regional math league
  • school awarded top math and computer science student

In Progress:

  • MIT INSPIRE
  • science fair

For the summer, I’m applying to COSMOS, UPenn Engineering Summer Academy, and EI @ Johns Hopkins. Any chances of me getting into those w my EC’s? Or are there better options that I could actually get into? thanks in advance

How in the world do you get a 1480 SAT in 8th grade without studying

@AdamD could’ve been the old SAT? Going by the OP’s current grade level, he/she would’ve been an 8th grader in 2015-2016. College Board switched to the new SAT in early 2016.
That, or the OP is just super good at the SAT.

Well, it is technically possible, since I got a 1570 as a freshman. The SAT is a poor indicator of one’s academic performance.

If you’re already a 3-sport varsity athlete by winter of 10th grade, then you have an awesome chance of getting good enough to play at a high level in college if you continue to improve.

I can personally let you know what kind of times are needed to get serious looks from D1 XC coaches, but I can’t help you as much with swim and tennis. What’s your current 5k xc PR? And have you considered switching from tennis to track and full-time running to make the most of your running talent?
