Desperate help needed for International Students

Hi Everyone,

So recently since the last few months my interest has piqued for colleges in US but I noticed that the tuition fee for most is much more than my parents can afford to pay, so my question is which colleges are most generous to International students with the financial aid and perhaps scholarships.

I have googled and found that most Ivies are but I can’t put all my chances on the Ivy Leagues.

What are your stats? What is your major?

Sadly, you’re asking this question a bit too late because many of the schools that offer large scholarships to internationals had a Dec 1 or Dec 15 deadline to apply.

At this point, you’ll mostly be relying on limited number of schools that meet need for int’ls.

Once you provide stats/scores and major, then some appropriate schools might be suggested.

@mom2collegekids I am going to apply for 2017 intake not 2016.

My stats right now is nothing solid. I will take my SATs at Jan and my GPA is 3.96/4. (I think because A-Levels dont use GPA)

Oh good!!!

Start taking the SAT and ACT study for them.

Talk to your parents about how much they WILL pay each year towards school costs, including international travel, health insurance, and cost of personal expenses.

What’s your major and career goal?

If you get a decent ACT Score, you’ll automatically get free tuition at both the University of Alabama and UAH.

@mom2collegekids My career goal is probably for Undergrad is PreMed but I am still not sure.

@PainfullyCliche

Pre-med is not a major. You can major in anything in college as long as you take the required courses expected of medical school applicants.

How will you pay for medical school? I know that is jumping the gun…but will you do that in your own country?

You need to talk to your parents about how much they’ll pay each year for undergrad.

@thumper1 makes a good point. If you plan on going to med school here, not only is it very hard for an int’l to get accepted to a US med school, you’d have a difficult time funding it.

It’s indeed exceedingly difficult for an international student to get into a U.S. med school. In 2015-16, only 0.7% of U.S. med school students were international.

The numbers are very low because:

  1. only a limited number of med schools even accept int’ls.

  2. those that do, only accept a tiny number, and not every year.

  3. Int’ls that get accepted often have to decline because loans are rarely available for int’ls, and med schools require that the int’l deposit 1-4 years to costs into escrow before enrolling. The number of SOMs that are requiring 4 years of escrow deposit is growing because some have “gotten bit” by having int’ls cobbling funds for the first year, but having no funds for later years…and having to drop out…which no med school wants.

@mom2collegekids I see your point. I am leaning toward med school but I am also considering Chemistry, Biotech or Engineering
