So the deal is I was accepted and considering all my top 3 schools Vanderbilt Wake and USC. I ended up choosing Wake and commited and everything however due to the recession my parents have informed me that it is impossible for me to attend my top schools because they cost too much and they dont want me with loans. So now I have to turn to my safety schools that gave me lots of money and I REALLY NEED HELP WITH WHERE TO CHOOSE! I never intended on having to consider any of these so I really need some insight quick!!!!!! I have to choose between University of San Diego, Elon University, or Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. PLEASE HELP!

Probably Barrett Honors College

I would say Elon University is the best

So you accepted at four colleges?

I got extensions on commitment to the schools I have only signed with Wake

Is it a huge mistake to pass up going to Wake? Im nervous I will regret not pursuing the best education I can.

In my opinion Elon University is better than Wake Forest. Both are comparable schools so you will not regret anything. Elon will provide just as good if not a better education than Wake Forest. The only thing is that Elon is not as pretigious as Wake Forest but that doesn’t matter if you are getting the same caliber of education.

Ask for better F/A or loans or something?

Thanks for the help so far! But some more info: There is no way in hell my family could qualify for financial aid (USC fin aid officer literally laughed at me during my appeals meeting) and I appealed citing all our financial obligations and huge hits from the recession on investments, property and the like and Wake denied my request.

Do you really think Elon is better then Wake? I wont be attending Elon completely for free so do you think it is worth it? A state school like ASU honors is free so Im wondering if you think Elon is worth paying anything for

well how much would you have to pay for Elon?

like 15 a year

can your family afford it? If you can, I think Elon is definitely worth it
if not, ASU is a great option (though I prefer USan Diego a little bit more)

You’re better off at a great Honors program that doesn’t cost a dime than a smaller college with less to offer academically, imo.

well Elon is actually larger than Wake Forest and Elon has many great academic majors. It’s small but large enough to have great academic programs of which the strongest are business, communications, music theater, education, and pre-med (it has only one of five cadaver labs in the country!)

My family can afford USD Elon or Barrett so im just tryin to figure out which is the best place to spend the money. USD and ELon with my scholarships come out to be about 15 a year and cost the same where as ASU is ultimately free

Menloparkmom: Im apprehensive about Barrett because even though it is a great program you still take about half your classes regular at ASU.

These days especially, the ability to get a FREE college education is something thousands of students , and their parents, would practically KILL for. Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish. Take full advantage of the opportunity Barrett offers. Your parents will thank you, and a few years from now, you will congratulate yourself for having made the wise decision that allows you to graduate from college DEPT FREE.

well it depends what the OP wants, if he is ok with the fact that ASU is a huge party school, take the free education to save your parents some money

If you’re going on to any graduate education at all, take the deal from ASU. Yes, it may be a party school, but I still think you’ve got a great opportunity that you shouldn’t pass up.
