Develop a Sports Resume

This is a recommendation for those who seem to have not prepared to be recruited for atheletics. There seem to be a number of posts suggesting that people are not prepared for the process. If I am wrong this thread will simply die. You should develop a sports resume, which has both your academic and sports highlights on it. At the appropriate time you can send it to prospective coaches. They will ask you for the information anyway and it looks better if you are prepared. Also, many coaches must pass the information on it by the Addmissions committee. In some cases, at top schools the coach really is cannot continue to deal with you unless the admissions committee says it is ok (i.e., you have passed the minimums for their athletes). Usually you can talk to your highschool coaches and get samples of past students, then develop your own. Keep in mind there is a difference in how it will look for a team sport (football) versus a non team sport (tennis). Again, the intent is to get parents to think about this adead of time. Also, look at NCAA guidelines for your division. Div I is the most restrictive, and you should follow those rules.

Don't forget the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Well Christcorp, looks like this is not of interest, but I am still surprised by the number of questions asked, which suggest that people have no clue what to do if they are interested in having their S or D pursue athletics in college. It makes sense people have a clear idea for the revenue sports which are well established, but for the NCAA's category of "other sports" of which there are a fair number it is not the case. Such is the way of forums.

One thing that we learned to our regret--TAPE EVERYTHING! Highlight tapes are worthless, but many coaches want to see game/match tapes and you never know when your aspiring athlete will have a good day.
