Is the Davis Honors challenge worth it? Can you apply your 2nd year? is it still possible to do research/talk to faculty if you don’t do it? Is it hard?

Any input appreciated!

I'm pretty sure you can apply your 2nd year. You need to reapply every year to stay in the program. I know some of the perks include nice dorms (in Tercero I think, don't know which hall), library privileges, first pick in classes... =P I don't know how difficult it is, but I've heard that the extra classes aren't worth it. Most people tend to lean against DHC, it seems.

The housing is in Tercero South.

If accepted, must you live in that designated hall?

^no, it's optional.

other perks include: privileged library and computer access, priority in registration, counselors love you....
I think it's totally worth it even if it means more work. it's doesn't necessarily mean that the extra class is harder though
I'm definitely going to apply

The seminars look really cool. I'm pretty interested in "Transnational Adoption: Altruism or Exploitation?", "Googleization of Identity", and some other ones.

But I really want to focus on my GPA and getting above a 3.7, so I probably won't apply :(

If you get accepted do you have to do it?

Does it make it harder to get a good GPA?

Is it impossible to register for needed/good classes without it?

If you get accepted you can get all the perks, and still not do any of the requirements and just automatically kicked out after that year (which IMO is perfectly fine for filling out an application).

Basically, you register BEFORE seniors.

GPA is just same piece of cake.

but you can't drop the classes that your required right?

I hear it's really not that bad. All they really ask you to do is to maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, which is extremely doable. You will LOVE first-priority registration.. and you will have friends who absolutely abhor you when time comes to register for classes =P

If we're incoming freshmen and apply now, do we still get priority registration?

Secondly, do we have to live in their dorms? (I have a friend who's not doing it)

Like, the discussion classes, what are they exactly, and do majors have room for those extra classes?

One more question:

their site says:
By the end of Spring 2008, students must:

*
Complete 1 DHC Honors Research Seminar (HNR 94) and 2 Challenge Sections/Courses*
*
Maintain a B average in all DHC courses
*
Take all DHC Courses for a letter grade (not Pass/No Pass)
*
Maintain a cumulative UCD GPA of 3.25 or higher

But I can't find HNR 94...
UC Davis Honors Challenge
?

Or can it be any of those?

i was going to apply, but then it said that by applying, i agree to go through with the program if i get in. so theres an obligation, and i dont know for sure if i want to start out in dhc in case of the difficulty being too high.

I'm not doing it. I think I'll probably wait first.

It seems like it's better to start your second year.
