<p>I’m from the East coast and we definitely say “totally” a lot… but you also hear “mad” too. Ballin’, legit, force, word… all pretty common. And I’m from the Boston area, so the stereotype is that we say “wicked” a lot, but you actually don’t hear it <em>that</em> often. =)</p>

<p>boston1993 and happilyhelen: I mostly hear adults use wicked, though sometimes I use it with out-of-staters to make it sound like I’m from Boston and confirm their stereotypes just for fun. Alas, I couldn’t pull off the accent even if I tried my hardest. I also hear “mad” a lot and “totally” has never stuck out for me. I think it is treated like just another adjective.</p>

<p>I don’t actually live in Boston, I live in a suburb about 20 minutes away from the Tobin. I could probably pull off the pure Boston accent if I wanted, but you’d probably have no idea I’m from the Boston area if you met me in person.</p>
<p>^That’s what I mean, although I live closer (Newton). A lot of people still speak with it here though, and I can’t. In general though, I think the accent is totally overblown as it is rarely as strong as one might hear on TV or movies.</p>
