Probably her resignation won’t affect class 2020 enrollment. Dickinson will hire a better replacement for the next four years. Why they announced before May 1 reply date or the open house Saturday 4/16?
Honestly, there’s not much to see here. The College is on very stable footing and her resignation will not stop that momentum. She accomplished a lot in three years: complete restructuring of student life, largest applicant pool in history, largest first year class in history, endowment surpassed $400 million, new capital improvements, etc. Like many college students nowadays, she was evaluating her fit at Dickinson and I think she realized that maybe this role wasn’t the best fit for her. Dickinson is thriving, and that growth will continue with the class of 2020 and beyond.
My D mentioned it today and said she wasn’t a great fit. Guess fit isn’t just for applicants!
Three years is a very short term and the timing is off. Why the abruptness of the announcement? She was scheduled to speak at the open house this weekend and was scheduled to be at a reception in Boston for prospective students as well. We were looking forward to meeting her.
I talked to my D more about this. Her take is that she was not really well suited to the job of college president – it is not specific to Dickinson, it wouldn’t have been a good fit anywhere in my D’s opinion. I agree that it won’t affect the college significantly, they are on good footing.
She was a no show at the admitted student day at Dickinson. Provost Nelson, the interim president, said that she is pursing another opportunity: a nice way to put it. Dickinson’s future is bright. My daughter is a new Dickinsonian, class of 2020.
