I have been accepted to both Dickinson and Vassar for the class of 2016 and am having a hard time deciding between the two. Does anyone have any advice? I have heard that Vassar is very liberal and LGBT friendly. I am not opposed to this but I was wondering if anyone knew how overt this was. I also heard that academically Vassar is above Dickinson. Is that true?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What’s the difference in cost?

The merit aid scholarship from Dickenson is similar to financial air package from Vassar. To be fair both where generous.

Which did you decide on and why?

Go to Dickinson since you are a straight male. Vassar propaganda will drive any straight male crazy.

OMG! Go to a real school!!! Dickinson has no real identity. Everyone confuses it with Fairleigh Dickinson which is an actual school. At least a Vassar you will have the chance to be surrounded by women (who are actually intelligent) and ppl will have heard of it (and think ur the man!) Dickinson has awful administration. Don’t bother!

Well, this thread has been reactivated long after the OP has made a decision. But just to comment, daughter graduated from Dickinson last spring (Phi Beta Kappa), and she is very intelligent. We never had ANY issues with Dickinson’s administration over the four years she was there. She (and her boyfriend, also PBK) got great jobs, too. And as far as I know, their employers did not have any issue identifying which college she went to. However, there is nothing wrong with Vassar. It may depend on what you want to major in, though.

If the OP has trouble being around LGBT and/or liberal people, they may have trouble at either school. My daughter had several openly gay friends at Dickinson (and the environment was very accepting for them, according to her). I know the College Democrats have a much larger membership than the College Republicans at Dickinson, too.
