Help. Whenever I stumble across a diction problem on the writing section, I always get it wrong!

ex: indecisive... indefinite.

I just feel both adjectives can work

Help. Whenever I stumble across a diction problem on the writing section, I always get it wrong!

ex: indecisive... indefinite.

I just feel both adjectives can work

people and events are indecisive. time periods are indefinite.

I can’t think of an example of an “indecisive event”. I don’t expect that anyone would say “an indecisive birthday party” … perhaps “an unscheduled party” or a “likely meeting on Tuesday” etc.

But of course people and other living creatures can be indecisive.

^“The generals fought an indecisive battle”
“The indecisive game did not decide a clear winner between the two rival teams”

To correct my earlier statement, I think “indefinite” can refer to amounts or numbers of something: eg. “I have an indefinite amount of swag”

^
You’re right “indecisive” (meaning inconclusive) can indeed refer to certain events – such as battles and contests. I wasn’t thinking broadly enough.
