Did anyone else get invited to this NEU event?

I’m a rising senior who’s very interested in NEU, and I got this email from admissions:

"The best way to explore whether a university is the right fit for you is to visit! That’s why I’m excited to invite you and your family to an exclusive, invite-only overnight campus visit so that you can truly experience Northeastern.

Your visit will include an Admissions information session, a campus tour, eating in the dining hall, and college-specific programming. In addition, you and your family will have the opportunity to spend two nights in our newest Residence Hall, East Village, free of charge."

I’m excited, and I think I’ll respond yes, but does anyone know anything about this? Is this “recruitment”? Does this mean they like me too?

Yes, it is recruitment. You likely have a high ACT/SAT score. Yes at first glance at least, they like you.

I wonder if this is a new recruiting technique that they’re using in place of the USP?

I’m interested to see how it goes, keep us updated after the event!

@TomSrOfBoston That just made me feel warm and fuzzy inside

@julianstanley If I had to bet, USP is unfortunately going away, not getting updated. They did say that I’ll have a one-for-one with an admissions counselor. So I’ll make a thread all about what I find out.

When did you get the invite @coterie? Also when is the event?

There are eight listed sessions. They sent me an email a few weeks ago.

I hope none of this is confidential. I read through the emails, and it seems like it’s ok to share this general stuff on the internet.

(NEU: if you want me to delete this please let me know. Love you guys)

Wow, you got an email for this a few weeks ago? I’m surprised others didn’t mentioned getting it yet - hopefully they will come on and share. It a good sign!

What are the dates for this? Curious how this fits into the admissions timeline.

PM’d you the dates, @nanotechnology

Hello! I am also a rising senior. I don’t remember ever indicating interest in Northeastern but I also received that invite a couple weeks back. I am visiting at this upcoming session that starts on the 4th.
I’m glad I finally found someone else who got this. I was starting to worry it was all some elaborate set up lol

Hi @naodar. Did they elude to the fact that they got your info from the SAT student search services? I’m trying to figure out how they selected students for this.

@suzyQ7 They did not elude to using SAT or ACT, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Both of mine are relatively high. I was planning on calling later to clarify some last minute details; if I get a chance I will ask my NEU schedule coordinator about the basis for invitation.

Thank you @naodar

This is not surprising. NEU are known for fairly aggressive marketing
tactics.

I think this has something more to do with aggressively recruiting high-scoring students. Aoun is desperate to increase the rankings.

(If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Google “Northeastern games rankings”.)

I just visited the campus yesterday!! Definitely at the top of my college list. I’m guessing I didn’t get the letter because I didn’t show interest earlier or because I took the ACT and not the SAT (on which I got a 33 <–too low for “recruitment?”). Anyway, I loved the school and the campus and am definitely shooting for the honors program within the college of arts, media and design or the college of sociology and humanities!! What about you @coterie ?

@ap012199

“I just visited the campus yesterday!! Definitely at the top of my college list.”

I visited NEU’s campus for the first time at a summer camp. The camp itself was lame, but the campUS was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. But I had no idea what other college campuses looked like, so I just thought that this is how they all looked and felt.
Now, after touring so many other schools (around 12), I realize how uniquely dreamy Northeastern University is. The city campus is really unlike any other. It might sound like hyperbole, but it’s tied with Columbia’s campus in my book. Apples and oranges, though. I’m in love with the former.
NEU is at the top of my college list, too. But I’m still looking around to make sure I’m not missing out on anything else.

“I’m guessing I didn’t get the letter because I didn’t show interest earlier or because I took the ACT and not the SAT (on which I got a 33 <–too low for “recruitment?”).”

According to various concordance charts online, a 33 equates to about 1500 on the SATs. At the time NEU contacted me for this recruitment thing, my highest SAT score was a 1490 (unless they could see my scores 2 weeks before they’re released?). Now, I’m a 1510, right in the same place as your ACT. So, don’t feel bad, this likely has nothing to do with your score, which is very good btw.
I have no clue if this is recruitment. @naodar will be asking his/her admissions counselor about the basis on which s/he was selected, and if s/he doesn’t give us an update, I’ll be sure to tell you all about it after my session in a week.

“Anyway, I loved the school and the campus and am definitely shooting for the honors program”

Really hoping I get into the honors program, too. I still am not sure if I qualify, or what the honors program will entail in the future. They’re doing a revamp of the University Scholars Program, not sure what’ll become of honors. Though I’m shooting for honors, I don’t think I’ll get it, given my scores might not be that great when compared to other CompSci majors.

I want to discuss the NEU Net Price Calculator, so I’ll make another thread about that. See you around, fellow excited prospective husky.

I’m applying to the CAMD; I don’t know exactly how my numbers will do compared to the other kids applying to the CAMD, but I’m guessing the average is lower than it is for CompSci majors.

@naodar Did you like the event?

@suzyQ7 I ended up having to call to cancel
