NEU College of Engineering sent out invitation for Graduate Candidate Day

Greetings!!

I have applied Engineering Program at NEU for 2015 FALL. and I have received an email on Jan 1st saying:
"Meanwhile, note that each year as part of the admissions process we invite top candidates to visit campus to learn more about our programs, and to meet with current graduate students and faculty. There is simply no better way to investigate a graduate program of interest. This is a great opportunity for those who are invited, Invitations for this event will be sent the week of February 16. "

Then I recived the invation email on Feb 13th, saying:
The Northeastern University Graduate School of Engineering cordially invites you to attend our annual Graduate Candidate Day on Thursday, March 5 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM and Friday March, 6 from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (or until done).
The event will kick-off on Thursday night at 5:00 PM with a social gathering at the Curry Student Center, where you will meet our current students, faculty and other prospective students.
On Friday, registration and breakfast will be in the Curry Student Center Ballroom beginning at 8:30 AM. The agenda for the day will include a welcome from the Dean of Engineering, a current student panel, a campus or lab tour, lunch, and department-specific sessions with faculty and current students. For planning purposes, attendees should plan to stay until the early evening as some departments may arrange for dinner or a social outing.

Your AY ID is:xxxxxxxxxx
You will receive a confirmation email and more details regarding the event in coming days. For those who cannot attend, we will be in touch with alternative plans."

What do you guys think of this??

Thank you !!!

These programs are really nice opportunities. If you are serious about maybe attending Northeastern, then go on that trip.

What’s the question? Should you go? Are they serious?

Well, if you are seriously considering NEU and you don’t have any unavoidable conflicts, you should really go. They do it for exactly the reasons they say, to recruit their top candidates to come to NEU. This kind of visit can help you decide and show them that you are serious about attending NEU.

Thanks! I’m still considering it, the expense would be high to just go visit…right now I’m just curious if this email means I have a higher chance of getting the admission?

Thanks!

They wouldn’t pay for your visit? Many schools pay the travel and board for the students that come out for those events.

they pay for Phd not ms

i’m interested in what this means too

Ah, in that case, it is really a question of whether it is worth the expense. If you are being invited as a M.S. and there is no chance for getting funding then it might not be such a great idea. They might be inviting you to see if they want to give you some kind of financial assistance.

Since you have no financial aid offer and if there is no chance for it, there is really no downside to not going. They have already admitted you and it is your decision to make.

There isn’t an official acceptance letter, so I’m kind of wondering if getting invited to this event means you’re probably accepted. For phD applicants, I understand if it’s a more formal interview process, and doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be accepted.

But for masters applicants, there’s not really an incentive to fly yourself out there if it’s not a high chance you’ve been accepted. Can only wait, I suppose

has anyone received any updates on this event?
