<p>bigten78 – I’m mad about it too and I’m a parent whose kid didn’t even apply to Brown this year. What makes me so mad is the content of the email, how much they value each student’s application and how much personal attention they will give it. Then to send that email to applicants they have already rejected.</p>
<p>Technology isn’t perfect but this wasn’t a problem with technology, this was a problem with the people who were administering it. They spent plenty of time creating text filled with flowery prose and then didn’t double check who the recipients were. It was sloppy, inconsiderate and insensitive on the part of Brown.</p>
<p>You’re right, aniram, it could have been much worse. I just looked this up to refresh my memory because the story is so horrible: UC San Diego had an ‘administrative error’ last March. It sent “congratulations, welcome to UC and please come to orientation next Saturday” notices to every single one of its applicants. That was 47,000 kids. Problem was: 28,000 of them were supposed to get “we are extremely sorry to inform you…” letters.</p>
