I thought these were supposed to go out late January. How could they have reviewed 3000+ applications in under 12 days?
Did you get one?
I received an interview request… They said they were interviewing from 12-8PM M-F and 8AM to 6PM on the weekend, 20 minute interviews, which means 180 interviews out of a whole lot of candidates. Also the FAQ document they sent out with the request email says that the interviewer doesn’t have access to the original application anyways.
I’m not quite sure what to make of the interview. Hopefully it’s a good thing?
@UCBMETapplicant I’m theorizing that they did all of the EECS people first (unfortunate for me) and then IEOR/MechE. Are you EECS? From the FAQ on their site, an interview request seems necessary to get in. Just doesn’t make sense how they reviewed so fast. Maybe there are a lot of high school kids who already have successful business… Either way, good luck!
Did you apply EECS? And did you turn in your application relatively early? I’m still wondering if only EECS got interviews because I haven’t heard of ANYONE in IEOR or Mech getting an interview yet.
@Bgrahn I turned it in on the last day of November. And that’s what I’m saying. It’s probably a bad sign for those of us who didn’t get an interview who applied EECS. They must’ve done those first before IEOR/MechE.
Obviously I don’t know for sure, just a theory.
I got an interview and I did mech
how was it btw?? if anyone did it already
@rimrim123 when did you turn in your supplement and app? Close to the deadline or pretty early?
@UCBMETapplicant howd your interview go
haha way too close to the deadline @Bgrahn
Well I had my interview on Jan 12 - i applied EECS+Business. The interviewer was an adjunct Professor at Haas, and she had worked as a News anchor for opprox 19 years. My ECs were in journalism, so we really hit it off. She didn’t have access to my application, and it felt more like a conversation than an interview. Now to think of it, she asked me about my interest in M.E.T just ONCE. I gave a solid reply, and rest of the discussion was on the political scenario in the U.S., some Trump bashing. We had a 40 min. interview, and in the end she was basically selling the M.E.T. program to me. It was chill.
@Rajvir Can you share your stats?
4.0 GPA, Class Rank 1, 1580 SAT, 800 SAT Math2, 3 APs - 5
Received email a few days ago for an interview for Ind. Engineering+Buis.
@hellomynamejeff Thanks! I did in fact apply as EECS+Haas. While I do have a startup, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s successful… we’re not quite profitable yet
@whitball2022 I think the interview went great! It definitely felt more like a conversation than an interview, and we talked about overarching personal stuff instead of strictly “Why MET?” things.
For future reference and also so I don’t forget myself, I listed a few basic things that are potentially useful.
Questions asked included:
- Why MET? (duh, but again not a major theme)
- What kinds of opportunities do you see yourself leveraging at UC Berkeley?
- Think about someone who knows you well; if I brought them in here and asked them to describe you, what would they say about you?
- And then a good deal of conversation (ie, two-way discussion) about topics as varied as religion and how tech can make the world better
Activities that I talked about:
- President of robotics club, managing both technical side (building world championship robots) and business side (coordinating $30k budget)
- Startup in what I hope is a pretty niche area, not like a million dollar valuation or anything though
- General stuff I do as a part of my religion, which my interviewer was, surprisingly, familiar with
Stats (which I still think aren’t necessarily useful metrics):
ACT 36/36/36/36, SAT 1590, SAT2 Math 800, Chem 800, 8 APs taken + 5 in progress (all 5s), GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.6 W
Semi-anxiously waiting for results… if they bumped up the interview announcements from last year, I wonder if they’ll bump up the decision date too. In any case, I’m thinking we’ll know the final tallies within the next 3 weeks or so.
Did anyone get interview email this week Business + EECS ?
If you didn’t get an interview request, does that mean that you’re not considered for M.E.T.?
@california32146 I got an e-mail today about an interview request for Business + EECS.
