haha thanks i did!! and i got in! yay!

how come CC doesn't have a CMC Class of 2010 website??

Does anyone know how many typically get this?

well to all of you waitlisted people.... cmc is sort of low on my list so i may be opening up a spot for someone :D sorry that sounds really bad doesn't it?

carpecollege... you are a douchebag.

thanks....

Does anyone know some waitlisted stats??

I got in! Sorry, I don't know anything about being wait listed. I didn't check online, though. I got it in the mail yesterday.

My D's girlfriend got in off the waitlist last year and is a happy camper, just loving her experience. Not much statistically but that is all I know. Good luck!!!

My letter (I was waitlisted) said nobody was accepted off the waitlist last year. This occurred because the yield was higher than expected: 275 accepted (source: class of 2009 profile on the school's website), and they only wanted 265 freshmen (source: the letter)

12041987: That information seems hard to believe. Two students (freshmen) told my daughter that they both had been admitted from the waitlist. She roomed with them while visiting a few weeks ago.

That's quite interesting to hear. The letter I received stated: "In some past years we have admitted relatively large numbers from the Alternate List and in other past years we have taken none off our Alternate List. Three years ago, for example, we later offered admission to 29 students who had originally been placed on our Alternate List. Two years ago we took 17 students off the Alternate List. Last year we took none. Each year is different and not entirely predictable." It also said "we received 3,580 applications for 265 freshman openings." At http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/admission/fr-class-profile.asp, it says there were 275 entering freshman, indicating that last year's yield was higher than expected, and supporting their statement that nobody was admitted off the waitlist last year.

12041987: I'm not sure what to believe. The information you have accessed is 'official', whereas mine is anecdotal. Still, the students appeared credible to my daughter, particularly since one of the students coincidently was related to a classmate at my daughter's HS.

i know for a fact that that isn't true... i think 2 people from my school got in off the waitlist and are there right now. that is really weird!

Why would the school lie about the number of students that got in off the waitlist? I'm not doubting the information you have, but it seems strange that they would publish information that is not correct.

no i agree with you... it just doesn't make any sense!!

Movements from the waiting lists are not solely caused by yield changes. For instance, the number of students deciding to spend a semester abroad plays an important role in correctly predicting the needs for housing. At small schools such as CMC, balancing the available dorms is not an easy exercise as the school tries to avoid overcrowding issues while guaranteeing housing for the four years. You may want to read about a similar issue that causes an uproar at Pomona.
