omg.. i just woke up to this.....
Christina,

Congratulations! The Admission Committee at Claremont McKenna College has unanimously voted to offer you admission for the Class of 2009, which will enroll here at the end of August. For your class we received 3,730 applications for 265 freshman openings, so you should feel especially proud of your selection by the CMC Admission Committee. This year we experienced a 6% increase in the number of students who applied for admission to CMC. It was by far the most competitive year ever in the history of the college.

shaizerrr !!! i cant believe it
i thought i was for sure rejecteddd!!!!!!

now what...
cmc or barnard?

what do i do ??????????????

Do the happy dance! Congratulations!

congrats silver_wavez, maybe i'll see u there in the fall! btw, that is the most awesome acceptance letter ever!

yehh it is!! you feel so good :)

wow silver_wavez...you've also applied to CMC? Congrats! I saw you in UChicago's board btw

Anyway...I still haven't heard from both...maybe I will get rejected, esp by CMC since it's extremely extremely competitive this year...

awww don't lose hopeee! :)

where else did u apply intlstudent?

I got into UVa, USC, NYU, GW(Elliott) and another LAC.
Waiting for UChicago and CMC!

ohh congratssssss!!!

i'm going to barnard though..

oh..why, if not too personal.

oh, you mean, why am i going to barnard you ask?
i suppose i can tell u here lol

because i think it's a great school and it seems like a really good fit for me. the english and art history departments are very strong, and that is what i want to major in.
plus i can reap all the benefits from columbia. essentially you graduate with a columbia university degree.
i absolutely adore new york city, it has been my dream to go to college there since grade 9, and i could never turn it down.. even though cmc and other schools i got in are good.
i could not ask for anything more.
the resources and internship opportunities and of course the endless other things you can do in nyc are just unmatchable.
barnard is a perfect combination for me.. --- intimate LAC setting within a large research univeristy, in NYC, women' college.

wow lucky you!
Are Barnard and Columbia tied...if I've used the correct word.

NYC is cool!

Yeh NYC is AWESOME :)

Thank intlstudent! I hope you get into CMC! I'm waiting for Chicago too!

Umm Barnard is "affiliated" (the official word) with Columbia. It is its own entity but under the big Columbia Univeristy umbrella. Essentially there are 4 undergrad colleges at Columbia - Columbia College, Engineering school, Barnard college, General studies (if I'm not wrong.. don't know the official name of it).
You graduate with a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University. and you can cross register classes at CU.. you can do practically all of CU's classes minus the core classes and a few others.
and facilities etc are shared

Have you visited both? They are way different. It seemed like you really really were intent on going to Columbia and Barnard is pretty much the same thing. You have a little while to think about it though.

Yep, I did see both campuses. But only did a tour at Columbia. Two summers ago now.

Yes, I was very intent on going to Columbia. I've weighed out all 5 places I got in, and for what I want to major in (Art History and English literature) and my intended career path and my love for NYC, made it very clear that Barnard was my one and only option. I guess you can say it is "pretty much the same thing", and this is one out of the many reasons why I choose to go to Barnard... but it definitely isn't THE reason why I want to go.
I still have to hear from Chicago and Wesleyan, but I won't want to go to either places.

yea, my mom went to barnard. and my daddy went to columbia. basically, you take classes at cu which is pretty awesome because you get the challenge but you leave with a barnard degree which isnt exactly the same. also, its a pretty small school - granted, its right next to cu which is rather big, but its a different feel. as someone whos coming from a really really small private, boarding school - i would die. but if it suits you well, i would go. also, its not as much of a 'party' atmosphere because it has well, all of new york city right there. my mom loved it and its an absolutely amazingly fantastic school ... so CONGRATS !!

Thanks domirican2005.. Yeh I'm really excited about going!!
Oh that's so cool about your parents, did they meet there?
"also, its not as much of a 'party' atmosphere because it has well, all of new york city right there. " - what do you mean by that.. cus it sounds a little contradicting to me lol.
And as for the degree, I understand that both presidents sign it. So Barnard girls get a BC, CU degree.
Where are you planning on going?

hey - yea, my parents actually met at cu law (yea, a little weird ... i know). and by the party comment, i meant that it doesnt have a party atmosphere like most colleges do because you have one of the greatest cities right in front of you, you arent going to be sitting around at a dorm party playing beer pong when you have all of new york city right there. which is pretty, well, awesome. i actually got into cmc ed though because i dont want to be my parents sooo im going there which im pretty happy about !!

I got a DHL from CMC :))
Never thought I could get in lol
and the wrote sth on my app too!!!

domirican - congrats :) lol i love your comment about how u dont want to be ur parents hehe. made me laugh! gd luck at cmc!! you'll have a great time.
i just got my actual acceptance package at cmc, and the dean or whoever of admissions wrote a personal comment.. it made tears well up in my eyes, it was so sweet. it's kinda hard giving up cmc too.... ughh i think my dilemma might turn into a trilemma!

internationalstudent - congratts!! are u gonna go to cmc? wait, i've bumped into u on the uofc board right? lol. i guess we have the same taste in schools!

yes silver~

ohh the comments...yes, it is touching for the recognition etc. And for what I wanted to major in, CMC is a good choice...so I am moved lol

But my heart is with chicago.
