Okay, I read through a bunch of points from the past day or two and have not yet seen anyone who has gotten rejected. Can this be true? Does WashU waitlist EVERYONE who's not accepted outright? Also, does anyone know our chances of being accepted off of the waitlist and is it a tiered/ranked or random list?

There are some, yes, but not too many. My friend was rejected with a 36 ACT. Well, he also had a 2.5 GPA, so that might be why.

So, basically the ones they really don't want get rejected? (No offense to your friend) Anyone have stats?

^^^ I saw one post on here, with 1 kid who got rejected....it was on the regular decision thread....

I think that people are just less likely to post the fact that they got rejected.

^^^ that's true. i noe if i was rejected, i probably wouldn't wanna post, especially if it was one of my top schools.

^^ yah, if i was rejected, I wouldn't want to post, especially when it seems like they waitlist everyone....

Um, in response to the "the ones that they really don't want get rejected" statement -
No, WashU wishes it could reject only those people. With 23,000 applicants though, they reject MOST people. You can't put 15,000-21,600 people on a waitlist, it just doesn't fly. And if I were rejected, I probably would not post the fact on every "Did anybody actually get rejected" thread that comes up on this forum (this is the third or fourth). Please be considerate, this is a very selective school. Even for the waitlist.

There's no saying what your chances of getting off the waitlist are, but they'll go back through the whole list when/if they're ready to accept more people. (Which is one reason why the list isn't 15,000 names long). Congrats on making the waitlist, a lot of people weren't so fortunate!

Yeah, most people do get rejected. For instance, there were 4 applicants from my school, all with fairly strong applications. 3 of them got rejected.

dd got rejected, very nice letter today. 32 ACT, 2100 SAT (perfect CR score), 3.8 GPA at competitive private school, National Merit Finalist...but never visited campus or expressed any real interest, something their website says they look for considering the large number of apps they receive.

ddd928, is that really true. That's really surprising actually. I think your daughter should have definitely been at least waitlisted. Is there anything really bad on her app? Such as expulsion, suspension, etc?

no, nothing bad on her application character wise...nice extracurriculars....would say downside would have been small amount of community service and little traditional "leadership" roles, such as class or student government. Academically, she did have a rough first semester junior year in two classes but followed with two of her best semesters. Unsubstantiated rumor at her school is that only 1-2 students get in from her school each year so you are somewhat at the mercy of who else applies and where you stand against them.

class2009college: There was a suspension on my app, and I was waitlisted =) Though, I definitely showed that I made up for it (long story)
