It seems as if more people were waitlisted and/or accepted than rejected lol

Does this means waitlisted is pretty much rejected?

I read somewhere that they waitlist more people than they accept (not positive though), so it’s probably true.

I’m pretty sure WashU very rarely (relatively speaking) rejects applicants. That is, they waitlist far more than they accept.

I wonder if a lot of people decide to go elsewhere if they don’t get decent FA.

WashU is infamous for always having a very, very, VERY long waitlist.
Some speculated in the past that the number on the waitlist may be in the THOUSANDS.

Just for grins, check Naviance data for any schools that have it publicly available (Google is your friend) – it confirms that for Wash U, many get waitlisted and very few are actually denied outright.

WashU is known for its loooong waitlist. & if you’re basing it off of CC posters, remember that people here are on avg more qualified than most applicants. and those that were rejected are less likely to post about it anyway.

true dat phthaloblue. but does washu reject any appllicants that were not deffered ed???

I’m a freshman now, and I got in off the waitlist, as did several other people I know. So there is hope :D

So as a question for winrawr, which I’m sure many of us are wondering, how exactly did you get off the waitlist and into WashU?

i sent a packet to all the schools i got waitlisted at (including washu) that had, as I recall, a personal letter stressing how interested I was in going there, an additional letter of rec from the teacher for my college-level english class (I’m an English major), and a list of a bunch of activities, volunteer stuff, awards, etc. I’d done/received since I applied or that I didn’t have room for on the original app.

I found out just after I’d sent in my deposit to another school, on April 30th or May 1st I think, when someone from the admissions office called my cell.

thank you winrawr! when did you send in this packet?

hmmm don’t remember exactly, in early or mid April I think.

alright thanks so much

Guys, there are 23,000 applicants per year to WashU. Very few of them end up on CC. More importantly for people who get rejected a lot of them aren’t going to post that they did. I can assure that many many many people get rejected.

WashU puts more people on WL than peer institutions but that doesn’t mean that they wait list the majority … or that no one got accepted.

It’s an availability heuristic.

no they waitlist everyone. seriously screw them. false hope is just mean

is this all speculatioin? where are all of you getting your info??? im calling admissions tomorrow and asking to find out for myself.

i wasnt serious. clearly they dont waitlist everyone. i just mean a LOT of pple. which *ing *es me off. **** washu

I was rejected. I applied early and was deffered. In the defer letter in December, they said they would either or accept or reject me in april but not waitlist so they wouldn’t keep me hanging again.
It happens, just most people are too ashamed/hurt to post it on an online forum.
Wash U was my first choice and my dream, all I could think about. It feels so anti-climatic, after all that waiting, wishing, hoping, its all over. Its too sudden, too real. I don’t blame most rejectees for not posting here.

i did catch your sarcasm, however, i want to know how many people got waitlisted. like do any of us have a &%(#*# chance in *#$&? is being waitlisted anything special? like do they acceptandorwaitlist 50%? I would like to get a realistic view of where I stand right now? Do I keep up hope and let myself dream about going to WashU? or is it time to wake up, smell the coffee, and start considering my other options? you know what I mean?
