Did anyone interview for Trustee and...

Did anyone interview last year or in previous years and NOT recieve the Trustee or Presidential scholarships? If so, when did they notify you and what did the letter/notice say.

Thanks!

Guitars- As I previously posted on a different thread, I personally know of two students who interviewed for the Trustee and were instead offered the Deans. They both felt they had great interviews. One of the students subsequently received two additional departmental awards so that the eventual total award was equivalent to or slightly more than the Presidential, but that wasn’t known for another two weeks. Both students were hugely disappointed to not get at least the Presidential award after interviewing for the Trustee and, feeling a little like USC did not want them after all, chose to go elsewhere. It is possible this happens more often than we might be lead to believe - students who ‘get demoted’ are not going to be talking about it much. These kids have other excellent choices and may move on to other schools, so you may not get many responses to your question. I believe the notification was by mail and was received at the same time the Trustee/Presidential awards were received.

Since it's St. Patrick's Day, I wish you the luck of the Irish and may the award be at least Presidential at your house!

Greta,

Thank you for your response. It's very sad to think they would offer the Deans (1/4) instead of the Trustee, when you interviewed for the Trustee. I wonder how often this happens? Do you happen to know if there were any specifics with those two interviews? I'm getting a bit nervous about my son's chances. He really does like USC, but unless we receive the Trustee, it will be very difficult for us financially. Thanks again!

guitars101,
These are the only details I know to share are: both were boys, both were interviewed through Marshall, both had parents attend the Explore session with them, both followed up with thank-you letters to the appropriate people and expressed interest in attending USC, and both did NOT qualify for ‘need based’ aid. And again, both said their interviews had gone well. Who’s to know, really? It does make me wonder what percentage of interviewees really are offered the Trustee level scholarship? I have not seen an answer that is not speculation. Hope your son gets good news, nevertheless.
