Did Anyone receive the email of Berkeley Regents and Chancellors Scholarship ?

Nope. Did you? I think they are supposed to email this upcoming week.

According to the Berkeley Admission Rep, you only get one if you have a 4.0 GPA. Then you gotta compete against all the other 4.0ers for it. like 1/10 of the 4.0ers get it or something like that.

That’s strange because I heard quite a few times that transfers at Berkeley don’t have to apply for the Regents like freshman applicants. Aren’t we supposed to know the decision the same day admission decisions are released?

That would be correct.

[UC Berkeley Financial Aid and Scholarships Office: Undergraduates » Types of Aid » Scholarships » Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship FAQ](http://students.berkeley.edu/finaid/undergraduates/RCfaq.htm)

That’s right. You don’t apply. It’s invite only.

@xcaliberse Are you 100% sure of that? I haven’t seen anything about Berkeley’s Regents requiring a 4.0 on their website. And UCLA’s supposed to have that requirement (well, the general UC site says so) and yet plenty of non-4.0s were selected.

Yes, I am sure that is what the Berkeley Representative told me. I dont know whether the Berkeley Rep is correct or not, but I’m pretty sure she won’t just make it up. Don’t know about UCLA, but according to [UCLA Financial Aid Office | CAL GRANTS | LOANS | WORK STUDY | SCHOLARSHIP | PELL GRANTS](http://www.fao.ucla.edu/uclascholarships/regents.html) , you do need a 4.0 cumulative transfer GPA.

According to a friend of mine who is currently a Cal Regent and part of the student outreach committee of the same scholarship, 4.0 becomes the de facto cutoff because there are so many of them. He said they take about 600 4.0s, read their personal statements, and from there choose 30 or 40 students to award the scholarship to.

This is uncorroborated by any Cal official and only word of mouth from my buddy the Cal Regent.

Sounds like he’s just repeating what the UCLA site says. But it sounds right. About 600 transfers have a 4.0. Dang… look at the competition. That’s like 25% of the Cal admits there…

@xcaliberse,

Well he’s part of the Cal Regents outreach committee so I don’t think he’d just parrot what the UCLA website stated.

Yeah, sorry if it sounded like I was insulting him. The stats just reminded me of the UCLA one. But UCLA and UCB are like neck and neck with stats so yeah. eyethink are you transferring to cal?

I see. I was working under the assumption that if there were any strict requirements, they would tell us.

I interpreted UCLA’s wording differently. I read the addition of the word historically to mean that there are exceptions. This would explain why sub-4.0 applicants like myself were invited. If I recall, other sub-4.0 applicants reported being invited in past threads.

I would probably assume for UCLA that there weren’t 600 4.0 applicants =/ I really don’t know how the system works. Just wanted to share the info that I did find out from officials :)

I appreciate your replies a lot. Guess I’m just hanging onto the hope of getting invited to Berkeley’s Regents since it’s my first choice.

And since some 4.0 students haven’t gotten emails - not yet, at least - my inquisitiveness makes me wonder about how exactly they invite students.

Eh, I’ll just roll with it. :)

Nah man we’re all good. That’s the difficulty with communicating online sometimes, there is no nuance.

I would be honored to transfer to Cal, but honestly it is all coming down to which school gives me the most money. I don’t want to be a financial burden on my family because I love them and I’ve got other siblings in college. They’ll support me to the ends of the earth if I asked them to, but it feels nice to tell them, “it’s all good.”

So we’ll see how far my grade point average, recommendations, and personal statements will take me.

How about you xcab?

Hoping to transfer to Cal. I picked up a part time job and am applying for a buncha scholarships to hopefully get me through 2 years without being a burden to my family as well. The Blue and Gold opportunity will help a lot! Eyethink, just out of curiosity, what’s your major?
