Regents Scholarships

Hey there,
Is there anyone on here who was awarded Regents last year as an incoming first year student? If so, would you mind sharing your stats? Thanks. :)

I second that please!

You could also look back around a year from now in this thread...but that would be tedious. I was reading old topics yesterday and it seems that it's not just the perfect people who get the scholarship. Some people you wouldn't expect received it.

What are the requirements to get it? Do you have to be in EAOP, MESA, puente, upward bound, etc. etc. (because I was not)? Is it based on financial need or background or what? HOW?!?!?!?!?

Regents isn't need based. It's merit. The award at Cal is $1000 for Regent Scholars, if you have financial need then it can be up to a full ride. And you don't need to be in state. In state stats last year stated in the high 2100+++ range for the SAT and mid to high 700's for SAT II's.

But do you need to be in EAOP or upward bound or puente or any of those things to qualify for Regents?

No, it doesn't have anything to do with the Leadership Award through Ca Alumni.

The award money for the Regent Scholarship is need-based, but determining who receives the award is not. That is generally determined based on grades, scores, ECs, etc. Basically the same criteria as admissions. Think of it as a tougher admissions process.

I noticed that no one has actually posted any stats. I'll present the stat of a good friend of mine who got Regents last year:

GPA: ~3.95uw
SAT: 2370
ECs: Student body president, band, orchestra, summer programs, etc.
In-state.

Of course, you don't have to have these stats to get Regents. I've heard of people with great stats who didn't get it and people with not-as-spectacular stats who got it. Generally think 3.8+ uw and 2200+ with some good ECs.

Here's an article that explains the Regent's and Chancellor's Scholarship. The article is old but the criteria is still the same:

www.berkeley.edu/news/berkeleyan/1998/0401/scholars.html

bump?

:)

So when do the letters come out?

I heard UCLA already sent them out...

cuz i got one! :)

Oooh, congrats! :)

From looking at last year's posts (and from knowing some kids who recieved Regents last year), Berkeley's should be coming out around the second or third week of Febuary. Too far away, right?

I got the UCLA letter too... but I don't want to go! I REALLY want the RC scholarship at Berkeley, though - that'd be great.

so i'm assuming that's an indicator of early acceptance???

well earlier, i guess would be the better word

Supposedly some people from years back got the letter but were not accepted. It's still a 99% assurance, though.

awww, i got no such letter from ucla, i'm sad... well, i would be more sad if i don't get one from berkeley, because i would much rather go to berkeley.
so, would i get a letter from berkeley even through i didn't get one from ucla?

btw, i got this letter from UC center saying that other campuses that i didn't apply to will also take a look at my application and might offer me opportunities. that was weird. anyone else got that letter?

yeah i got that letter too hahah.

the UCLA letter?
