What are the exams like? Are they based on the lectures or on the readings?

Anyone????

Surely someone has taken this class...

Why not just take the class if it interests you and not worry about the content of the exams?

I am doing that - I'm just trying to get a better idea of what to focus on when studying because there is so much reading and lecture material. It helps a lot when it comes to preparing for exams if you have some expectation of what they will be like, and the professor doesn't make clear what he's looking for.

My apologies, then, for assuming such shallow intentions.

Why not just email the professor asking how much importance you should place on the readings?

That said, it's really his call to test you as he deems appropriate. I'm reminded of an introductory class I had one semester where the first prelim was based entirely on lecture but the final broke out a couple long readings that were never directly touched upon in class but which the professor explicitly had urged us to read. As the professor mentioned at the beginning of the final, "it separated the students from the scholars."
