I'm a junior with a very low UW GPA (3.44) and I wanted to know if anybody with below a 3.6 got in. Please let me know if you got in, and if you did, did you have something else extraordinary that balanced out the GPA? Thanks.

I know someone with a 3.51 who got into LSA EA, but he was chief editor for our journalism club, and won a ton of awards for it, so maybe that was why he got in with a slightly lower GPA

Coming from a school sending 80+ a year, I see people from all areas of GPA get accepted :P. If I can recall correctly, two years ago a person got in with a 3.4 but he had like a 35 on the ACT

Yes. They’re called scholarship athletes. :)

But for real, 16,000 students are accepted each year, so of course some students with below a 3.6 get in. A lot of times it’s due to course rigor, a notoriously difficult high school, a crappy freshman year, or anything else. But I assure you that with a 3.44 you will most definitely need some kind of big hook or awe-inspiring aspect of your application in order to be accepted (perfect SAT/ACT, a very prominent leadership role, winning an award or a contest, etc.).

Two of my friends got in last year, with a 3.58 and a 3.54 (both to LSA). To be fair, both of them got pretty good scores on the ACT. They were instate, as well. Also, one was the captain of the Robotics team and had to miss a ton of class once they went to State (each year, lol, our team is good) and the other was a Robotics member AND part of a bunch of student organizations and the class’s President as well. So really, it’s more than just your GPA, but you have to have either a good reason or SOMETHING to justify or make up for it.

~3.2 GPA and I received word yesterday that I’m in, I’ve had many (President of Student Government, Founder of Model UN, Founding Member of Mock Trial, etc.) of those prominent Leadership Roles mentioned above (also attended a number of Military themed leadership camps such as Freedom Alliance Military Leadership Academy) so yeah, sub 3.6 you can get in but you need to prove that you’re a sound investment.

26 on the ACT but 35 in Reading. Potentially going into English (though planning on doing P.P.E.) so that probably had some bearing too.
