First of all, after my semester is over, I plan to search out scholarships that I am eligible for and to enter them, mostly on weekends. My family income is around $180,000. 2 children (including me), only one of my parents works. Was this a mistake in applying non-need based? i know its too late now but how much would i probably have gotten with this kind of status? (the income provider of my family works in stocks/business so current income is low obviously). Is it quite common to meet someone on a college campus who is paying full tuition? Some of my schools don't provide any merit aid.

If you are the only one in school, with that income you must have a high EFC -- probably 45K or more depending on assets. So, you will get little or no need-based aid. Worth applying but be prepared for the inevitable.

thanks, i just wanted a broad estimate.

Actually, always apply for need-based aid. For many schools, there are a lot of minor merit awards that are filled as a result of those forms. Also, if family circumstances change, you'll have at least an initial file started.

My d got fin aid, and our income is in the same ballpark as yours.
