Looking back I think I made a huge mistake.

I was accepted to 5 Florida State Colleges, two of them including the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida.

I ultimately chose the University of Central Florida (Honors College).

I don't really know if the decision I made to attend UCF was the right one. I know that UF is the powerhouse of universities in FL, and I think I may have sold myself short by deciding on UCF.

The main thing that drove me away from UF was the sports. I want to focus on academics, and it seems as if the Gator Nation was in the way. If I had the funds I would have applied to schools like MIT and Stanford where sports were not the schools focus.

Also, I chose UCF Honors because I was offered a lot of scholarship money. Whereas UF offered me none.

I am trying to justify my reasoning for choosing UCF Honors, but I think no matter what I do UF will always be in the back of my mind.

Don’t live with regret. If it is too late to change your decision then focus on the positive aspects of your decision. I know many people who are happy with their decision to chose UCF over comparable state schools.

Like the previous post said, don’t live with regrets. I know many people at UCF who were accepted to other schools in Florida (including UF) and are very glad they decided to go to UCF. You sound like you are looking for a good education. As a student at UF, I don’t think UF is as good of a school as most people think. I’m not saying it’s terrible or anything, but I just don’t think it’s the best school for undergrads. UF focuses more on their graduate and professional schools. Plus, if you got scholarship money from UCF and not from UF, that’s another reason why UCF was a good choice. So don’t feel like you made a mistake.

I don’t think it’s too late for UF to reoffer admission to you. If I were you, I’d probably stay at UCF. If for some reason you aren’t happy, or you pick up more scholarship money, you could always transfer.

Yeah, you could always transfer it if turns out UCF isn’t for you. Just don’t regret the choice you made. I turned down UF for FSU, and I sometimes wonder “what if” because all of my friends are going to UF, and Gainesville is a bit closer to home. But then I remind myself of why I chose FSU and why I didn’t like UF as much. Where you go for undergrad doesn’t matter nearly as much as where you go for grad school.

I never understood why an honors college would be the deciding factor in someones decision.

you might have received the pegasus scholarship which swayed your decision but it seems as though the admittance to ‘honors’ college was also a factor.

It’s not so much where you go to college, as what you do while there. Sounds like you have the proper focus and will achieve much. Spend your time learning and exploring what you want to achieve in life and you will be a happy, productive, scholarly and well-educated person when you finish. And finishing college with little or no debt is a HUGE step in the right direction, so don’t second guess yourself. Go to UCF and make the most of it!
