Okay, so my freshman and sophomore years were filled with many honors and AP classes (freshman - 3 honors, sophomore - 4 honors, 1 AP), and I ended up with all As and 1 B (it was in my 1st semester of sophomore) total by the end of my sophomore year.

In my 1st semester of junior year, I took 5 Honors and 1 AP, and I sadly got a B+ in both English 11(H) and Biology 11(H) and a B in Theology (H). My other four classses were As, however. I know that UC GPA unweighted goes like A=4, B=3, C=2... So I'm wondering, how bad is my UC GPA now? I'm really upset that the B+s did not make it to at least the A- range.

I really want to get into UCLA.. I have lots of E/C's and over 400 service hours, and my SAT I score is a 1970 (I've only taken it once). I'm in the top 4% of my class, my school is part of the ELC, and I'm a California resident living in the valley.

I hate how UCs don't take + or - into consideration!!!

your school has alot of honors classes =O. But i think you should be fine since it was only 1 semester and you were doing quite well before it, try your best to get straight A’s from here. I might try to throw in more ap’s your senior year.

lol ya i know huh!! my school is horrible when it comes to AP classes. i’ve actually taken as much as what my school offers. but yeah next year im taking like 5 APs. do you know what weighted / unweighted GPA UCLA is looking for? I think my weighted is a 4.13 right now and my unweighted is a 3.8.

UCLA looks at both fully weighted and unweighted GPA for application evaluation. UCLA does not consider ELC.

oh… then what are the benefits of being part of the ELC?

…wow.
and how old are you? 16? 17?

Go outside and play tag with your friends or something, jeez.
Seriously, those are the experiences that make a person great. Some minuscule difference in the grade of some classes are nothing to destroy yourself over.

lol I’ve asked my counselor before and she said UCs look at the weighted UC GPA and weighted GPA from 10-11 more than others I think. I know the other kinds are most definitely reviewed but those two are probably more prominent than the others.

Try to go for straight As.

@FlyingFeatherz, ELC students are guaranteed acceptance at certain UCs. This year, Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, and Santa Barbara guaranteed acceptance to ELC students.

make sure you do super super well your second semester of junior year because thats pretty much that last batch of grades theyre gonna be able to see when they review your application. If you do well, then it will look like you are very good at improving yourself which is what they look for.
