I'm going to apply for transfer admission to USC for the Fall 2010 semester. At the beginning of the current semester, I had a 3.8. Now that this semester is over, however, I got 3 As and 3 Bs, so my GPA is a 3.6. The average GPA for a transfer student is exactly 3.6, so I'm only marginally safe in that respect. I'm working on my personal statement now, and I'm going to try to make it amazing. And I'm 2 years ahead of where I'm supposed to be, so I'm REALLY hoping that'll at least matter somewhat, especially now that my GPA is right at the cutoff. However, because of the particular grades I got this semester, an equal number of As and Bs, did I ruin my chances of getting into USC?

First of all, relax I’m pretty sure we determined even with a 3.6 you wouldn’t have to worry much for the major you are applying to. You still got spring semester to pull the gpa back up also. Your personal statement will be different than many because of your age and the story you can tell so keep that in mind. Schools try to make classes diverse by bringing in people of all ages, races, elasticities, and backgrounds.

I’ve been working on my app today and have finished everything except the essay!

That’s true, both about pulling my GPA up and the personal statement. [: Thanks, I feel a little bit better now. It’s going to be a long wait!

That’s good, I still have to do the quick takes (I think that’s what they’re called) and the short answers, along with the personal statement!

Weird, I just noticed that spellcheck changed ethnicities to elasticities in my previous post. Anyway just work to pull your gpa up a tiny bit to give you that extra push, shouldn’t be that hard. Consider taking an extra easy A class or two.

how are u ahead by 2 years? im taking community college classes right now before graduating high school, but i dont think that’ll count. otherwise i was planning on being ahead too! : ]

Kulakai: Haha I didn’t even notice the elasticities/ethnicities switch. And I have two winter classes, and I should get A’s in both of those, and then most of my classes for the spring are easy, so they should definitely bring my GPA up!

babygrl9205: I finished high school one year early (I was supposed to be the class of 2010), and I go to a CC currently, but I’m finishing 2 years worth of work in one year, so I’ll be 2 years ahead. I’m pretty sure that by taking classes at a CC while you’re in high school, you’ll be a year ahead when you graduate! [:

Yeah no worries then, I’ll see you in August! :D

You bet! [:
