I am assuming it is somewhere around 50k, but I was wondering if the University give an approximate indication.

We attended a campus day last weekend for admitted students (son admitted EA for LSA). They stated it was a record year for applicants - approximately 25,000 applied EA and that total applicants would be approximately 50,000. They congratulated everyone for getting accepted in their most competitive applicant year ever. Good luck to everyone - if you don’t get in, it is not the end of the world. Keep working hard and you will be successful.

When does UM announce the acceptance rate and other admissions data?

It won’t be for a while, but it is fairly certain that this year, Michigan’s admit rate will drop to 30% and the mid 50% SAT/ACT will be 1300-1500 and 29-33.

The admission number may be available in May and the yield rate (deposit paid) may be announced in June. According to the admission office, they have received 50,488 total applications this year. If the yield rate remains around 40% (I expect it to be lower though, it was 39.5% last year), they need to admit 15,000 to fill the 6000 seats. That would put it at 29.7%. My bet is they will accept slightly more than 30% (>15147) this year.
The mid 50 ACT has been at 29-33 for the last couple years and I don’t any reason to drop down this year.
The mid 50 SAT stat was in 2400 scale in the last few years so I cannot comment the numbers in 1600 scale. It will be less confusing when it returns to 1600 scale in a couple years.
