Post them here when they come out or if they already are. All stats you find are welcome.
51,000+ applicants! less than 25% acceptance according to admissions at an alumni event last night in NY.
Wow. Did they say anything about yield? If they admitted significantly fewer students, are they going to have to go to the waitlist to hit enrollment targets? At 40% yield, that’s only 5100 students which seems low.
They certainly won’t know about yield until sometime after 5/1. I would expect the final applicant count to be closer to 53,000, the yield at about 42-43% and the acceptance rate at 26-27%. Also using the waitlist more which will be interesting to see how many do come off the waitlist.
They are aiming at 13,000 admission as they said on the blog in October. So it would be around 25% of 52,000 applicants. The yield last year was 42% and I don’t think it will go back down to 40%. There should be still a few hundreds seats left after May 1.
25%!? Wow!
That’s insane. I wonder what the admission rate is instate vs OOS.
It will be more like 26-27% acceptance rate when you count those accepted off the wait list. That is still a large drop from 32.1% last year and 33% and 36.5% the two prior years. The common data set from last year also shows the yield at 40.5%, not 42%. Again, increasing each year, so maybe in the 41 - 41.5% expected this year.
Wayne, most elite universities experience a rapid drop in admit rate once they hit the 30% range. Considering how popular Michigan is, the admit rate will drop to 20% in the next 2-3 years, and could even drop lower if the University improves FA for OOS students.
I’m not arguing otherwise; I agree that I can certainly see the admit rate dropping to 20% over the next 2-3 years. A drop from 32% in '14 to 27% in '15 would certainly be on that trajectory.
@wayneandgarth The 42% (actually 42.5%, 6795 out of 15985) is based on the number of students who had paid deposit by May 1 versus the total number of admitted students. Obviously, there are students waitlisted for other schools and did not attend at the end leading to a lower number on the CDS which actually showed the number of enrolled students.

Note that school release their yield rate after May 1 not after the term started.
Do you think the in state rate should really dip as low as 20%? Do you foresee a backlash from the legislature if that happens?
@billscho - I see where you got that yield now. But, of course 6795 is not how many ended up attending but simply paid a security deposit; so the 6475 in the CDS out of 15985 is the effective yield (40.5%).
@onceuponamom I don’t think so. The in state yield rate is around upper 60% and there are around 10,000 in state applicants. If they keep the 60:40 in state to OOS/international ratio, they would need to admit around 5000 in state students. So the instate admission rate should still be around 50%.On the other hand, the OOS admission rate would be around or slightly below 20% this year.
I doubt the in state would drop to 20%, countless people on these threads have told me that the admission rate for in state kids hovers in between 40%-50%
@billcsho Damn, below 20%. Do you think they’ll actually ever release the OOS admission rates?
@wayneandgarth That is usually the way yield rate is calculated. So the yield rate last year was 42.5%.
Just another piece of information. The yield rate has been going up by 0.5% per year in the last few years. It was 41.5% in 2012, 42% in 2013, and 42.5% in 2014. If the trend continue, it would be likely 43% this year.

Last year, the yield rate for OOS students is around 27% while 68% for in state. The freshmen student body ratio of in state, OOS, and internationsl is 59:36:4.
