Before that, I thought I could at least get my CGPA to be bumped up from 3.43 to 3.59 this semester. After finishing all the finals, now it turns out I might get 3.52 this semester. Considering that this is my last semester in the college, and also the fact that I have always wanted to get into Harvard MBA( best MBA option for me) in the future, am I doomed this time for getting lower than expected gpa? Is there a big difference between 3.52 and 3.59 UG GPA? How would the adcom perceive this?I know the average UG GPA for harvard MBA admission last year was 3.66.

A bit of my background, I am graduating with an Econ honors degree from one of the schools (think like Indiana University, Wisconsin Madison). Is 3.53 GPA with a business major considered a low GPA for adcom? Also, the fact that I am not from Ivy.

Nobody at any graduate school is going to care about .07 of a grade point.

Graduate admissions primarily are concerned about certain GPA minimums; beyond that, admissions are very qualitative and involve a lot of looking at research/professional experience and academic recommendations. For MBA admissions, business achievements are key.

Hi, I’m currently in my second year at college, majoring in Economics. I scored about 75% in both my first and second semesters, which was pretty low as I was involved in quite a lot of college events and culturals. I’m sure I can bring my score upto 95% and above in the next four semesters, after which I’ll be taking up a bridge course from London School Of Economics. Alongside, I also have a great profile for community service and volunteering, internships and extra curriculars in foreign languages, piano and art.

I’ve also got a won a good amount of competitions in college, and elsewhere.

After graduating, I’m looking forward to gain some great work experience, and hopefully then apply to Harvard and a couple of other ivy Leagues, NYU and UCLA.

Any help or guidance on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OP, you are graduating with honors with such a relatively low GPA? From a Big 10 school? There is nothing wrong with your GPA, I just didn’t think that students graduated with honors with anything less than an approximately 3.75 or so.

Are you aware that school like Harvard, and other top MBA programs, rarely take applicants right out of undergrad? Most of the top business schools prefer to see a few years of real world work experience in their accepted applicants, because of the perspective and seasoning real world experience brings to classroom discussion.

@boysx3: I think OP meant an honors degree, where certain courses and a certain GPA are required (I’ve seen it be as low as a B-), rather than graduating with honors, where a higher GPA is required.

This thread is all over the place. The OP has only posted 3 times – he says he’s a senior det’d to go to a top Ten MBA program yet has a “meh” GPA. His issue is “what significant work experience can he achieve between graduation and time for MBA applications”. He said he either goes to at top ten program or none at all. Likely the latter.

Then valder: don’t threadjack. You got a question? Start your own thread. Your question is different than zzstorm. Your 75% avg in major portions of your undergrad transcript is pretty bad for your chances at top MBA programs later. What is your current culm GPA? Is it a 2.5?

That should be your focus – you frankly seem too distracted. Your ECs in college won’t get you into a top MBA program if you have a less than mediocre GPA. Frankly, unless you can network like h*** your chance of getting a great business opportunity after graduation are pretty slim too. Anyone under a 3.0 GPA raises a red flag to employers.
