Did the Ivies pick 'em?

Yeah pretty much every who was ranked 1-10 (out of 1300) went to an ivy. A few others who had strong EC's got into some ivies as well.

Here's the rank and who is going where:
1. Harvard
2. UT Austin (makes me feel better for going there lol)
3. CalTech (I think)
4. Yale
5. MIT
6. Harvard
7. Stanford
8. Cornell
9. I forgot
10. I forgot

Others included Columbia, more Cornell, a few Georgetown, and one Duke

Harvard
-a pretentious girl who got in EA and then applied to Yale, Princeton, and Columbia (among others) just to see if she'd get in; she's super smart, but super cocky as well
-a hardcore Asian; I heard he got out of a B in a class because his Dad is on the Board of Education or something; strengths are math and tennis
-another hardcore Asian; main EC is tennis, but he wasn't recruited; didn't tell anyone he got in EA, and then he told everyone on April 1

Yale
-the pretentious girl (see above)

Columbia
-the pretentious girl (see above)
-an amazing, humble, talented-at-everything girl; I have a ton of respect for her; she's amazing (she didn't get into Yale, her first choice. It's their loss)

Brown
-the amazing girl who's going to Columbia

Penn
-a very talented girl; strengths are public speaking/law, viola/music theory, and, um, everything else
-a girl recruited for tennis
-a quiet hardcore Asian

Cornell
-a not-hardcore Asian with good stats and all but is kinda an ass in class
-hardcore Asian whose life is Science Olympiad

Dartmouth
-a black girl who, even without affirmative action, probably could've gotten in because she's incredibly industrious; I respect her greatly for how dedicated she is while still being a cool person
-hardcore Asian who loves Science Club in general
-all-around Renaissance girl; a legacy

Princeton
-hardcore Asian girl going into engineering
-hardcore Asian guy who doesn't talk but is a beast at math/physics
-hardcore Asian guy who doesn't talk but is apparently a beast at math and is on the Varsity swimming team
-really smart Asian guy who isn't really hardcore, but his main interests are still math/science anyway

Hm... everyone from that list except the last two Dartmouth people are Asian. :p

Ok so those are just the Ivies, and I know I missed out on a lot cause we usually have 10+ people going to Cornell each year, and some people got into other Ivies but nobody cares cause they got into more prestigious Ivies (like Harvard and Princeton).

Looking back, it seems like the pretentious ones are going to Harvard, the typical Asians are going to Princeton, but most of our amazing personality people didn't get into top-ranked schools.

Seriously, college admissions is soo stats driven it's not even funny. Some of these people had like 2 EC's (Math or Science Club and a stringed instrument). So typical. :

"Math or Science Club and a stringed instrument" ><

where are you applying next year, theoneo?

At my school, a small rural regular public school with a graduating class of 17, our top student is going to Montana State University, as is #2 (school is in montana). #3 is going to Rocky Mountain College, also in-state, to play NAIA basketball, and I as #4 am going to USC, and I was waitlisted at Stanford and Cornell.

Only one other person from my school in its recent history, maybe its entire history, has applied to ivy league schools, and he ended up going to MIT.

We also had two kids from my school in recent history go to the Naval acadamy. One lasted 6 months, and the other lasted 4 days. Really embarassing.

freddieisurhero - why do you ask?

Oh and btw some background on my school... respected public in an affluent area of NJ and each of our schools (elementary through high) are at least 35-40% Asian.

just wondering... :) since apparently there are so many seniors from your school going to good schools. just wondering if you planned on doing so also :]

My top two choices are Yale and Stanford. However, they are the only two top schools who really, really hate us. Harvard and Princeton love us. :

It seems like half my friends want to go to Princeton, and the other half wants to go to Harvard. It's weird.

I go to an extremely wealthy school with affluent households all over the place. Pretty much all of the kids here are driven and work their butts off. Most pretty much end up applying to one Ivy, at least. However, some questionable kids did get into UPenn this year. I mean I'm sure they work hard, but compared to other students who are probably more qualified, they just don't stack up. Double legacy can get you pretty far. But all in all, yeah, the Ivies usually pick the right kids from my school.

They sorted um beautifully. In my class off about 100 we have like 12 goin Ivy but our number 1 got rejected from Yale and boy did she deserve it. She wouldn't know what personality was if hit her in the face.

The guy who was #1 didn't get into any of his "top Ivies". He didn't apply to what he considered "lower Ivies". On May 2, he said Harvard offered him a place from the waitlist, meaning that they called him on May 1. I find it extremely hard to believe that they sorted all of the reply cards, consolidated and went over their waitlist, and called him all in one day. He's going to a combined medical program in our city and said he rejected the offer of acceptance off of the H waitlist. I say it's bs.

Except from one AA case, all the really smart kids got into the Ivies...with those who arent actually intelligent, just book smart, didnt.

1-Princeton
1-Yale
1-Dartmouth
3-Carleton

Our graduating class is around 60 kids. The kid that got into Princeton had a double legacy and had parents who DUMPED money into Princeton. The girl who got into Dartmouth had a similar situation. These kids are smart, and have impressive extra currics, but they're just not REALLY impressive - just good.
